Abstract

A computer implemented method for distributing, collecting and monitoring assignments by a content management system. The method includes receiving a request for a file request from a teacher to distribute an assignment to one or more students. In response to receiving the request, the teacher is prompted for information associated with the assignment. The information can include a name for the assignment, an assignment file and a collection identifier. In response to receiving the information, one or more metadata tags are generated based on the received information. The file request is distributed along with the one or more metadata tags to the one or more student.

Claims (43)

1 . A method comprising:

receiving, from a requester device, a file request to be distributed to a plurality of submitter devices associated with a corresponding plurality of submitters, the file request comprising file request information;

based on the file request information and prior to receiving electronic file submissions, generating a target collection folder in a folder hierarchy within a content management system account associated with the requester device;

storing, within the target collection folder, the electronic file submissions received in response to the file request; and

providing, to the requester device, a graphical user interface comprising a submission summary within a single user interface view, wherein the submission summary lists the electronic file submissions and at least one additional file from an additional file request within the single user interface view without visually referencing the folder hierarchy, and wherein the at least one additional file is stored in a different target collection folder.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising filtering a list of the electronic file submissions within the submission summary based on a specified submitter.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing, based on receiving an indication of a navigation input, a file request homepage within the graphical user interface that comprises a submission status for multiple file requests.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the submission status for each of the multiple file requests comprises at least one of a number of submissions to the file request, a number of late submissions to the file request, or a number of missing submissions to the file request.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an indication of a user selection of a selectable element associated with a first electronic file submission from a list of the electronic file submissions; and

providing, for display within the graphical user interface, the first electronic file submission.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising deactivating the target collection folder to prevent further uploads of electronic files to the target collection folder.

7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising providing, for display within the submission summary, a submitter name associated with a submitted file submission status indicator that indicates a receipt or a lack of receipt of a file submission corresponding to the submitter name.

8 . A system comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

receive, from a requester device, a file request to be distributed to a plurality of submitter devices associated with a plurality of submitters, the file request comprising file request information;

based on the file request information and prior to receiving electronic file submissions, generate a target collection folder in a folder hierarchy within a content management system account associated with the requester device;

store, within the target collection folder, the electronic file submissions received in response to the file request; and

provide, to the requester device, a graphical user interface comprising a submission summary within a single user interface view, wherein the submission summary lists the electronic file submissions and at least one additional file from an additional file request within the single user interface view without visually referencing the folder hierarchy.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium further comprises instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to provide, for display within the submission summary, a submitter name associated with a submitted file submission status indicator that shows a receipt of a file submission corresponding to the file request.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium further comprises instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to provide, for display within the submission summary, an option to filter a list of the plurality of submitters based on submission status corresponding to the file request.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium further comprises instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

provide, for display within the submission summary, a selectable action element associated with each of the electronic file submissions; and

provide, for display within the graphical user interface, a first electronic file submission based on receiving an indication of a user selection of a first selectable action element associated with the first electronic file submission.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium further comprises instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

after storing the electronic file submissions, deactivate the target collection folder to prevent further uploads of electronic files to the target collection folder.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium further comprises instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

provide, based on receiving an indication of a navigation input, a file request homepage within the graphical user interface that comprises a submission status for multiple file requests,

wherein the submission status for each of the multiple file requests comprises at least one of a number of submissions to the file request, a number of late submissions to the file request, or a number of missing submissions to the file request.

14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the file request information comprises at least one of a file request title, a user-composed message, a deadline for submission, or a file.

15 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a computing device to:

receive, from a requester device, a file request to be distributed to a plurality of submitter devices associated with a plurality of submitters, the file request comprising file request information;

based on the file request information and prior to receiving electronic file submissions, generate a target collection folder in a folder hierarchy within a content management system account associated with the requester device;

store, within the target collection folder, the electronic file submissions received in response to the file request; and

provide, to the requester device, a graphical user interface comprising a submission summary within a single user interface view, wherein the submission summary lists the electronic file submissions and at least one additional file from an additional file request within the single user interface view, and wherein the at least one additional file is stored in a different target collection folder.

16 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing device to filter a list of the electronic file submissions within the submission summary based on a specified submitter or a specified file request.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing device to:

receive an indication of a user selection of a selectable element associated with a first electronic file submission from a list of the electronic file submissions; and

provide, for display within the graphical user interface, a copy of the first electronic file submission.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing device to provide, for display within the submission summary, an option to filter a list of the plurality of submitters based on submission status corresponding to the file request or the additional file request.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing device to deactivate the target collection folder to prevent additional uploads of electronic files to the target collection folder after storing the electronic file submissions.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing device to generate, for each submitter device of the plurality of submitter devices, a template file for the electronic file submissions.
