Abstract

A gutter assembly comprising: a gutter having a front gutter wall having a front inner lip; and a gutter cover comprising: a front cover mounting portion including: a rim abutting segment superposable to the front inner lip; and a lip retaining member resiliently and deflectably connected to the rim abutting segment, the lip retaining member extending downwardly and including a lip retaining segment extending forwardly from a rearward segment end of the rim abutting segment to define a lip receiving recess thereinbetween for receiving the front inner lip of the gutter, the lip retaining member further comprising a guiding member extending rearwardly and downwardly from the lip retaining segment, the lip retaining member being resiliently deflectable rearwardly by the guiding member abutting the front inner lip upon engagement of the gutter cover with the gutter.

Claims (30)

1 . A gutter cover for covering an opening of a gutter having a front gutter wall, a rear gutter wall and a bottom gutter wall defining a gutter channel, the gutter cover comprising:

a front cover mounting portion operatively engageable with the front gutter wall, a rear cover mounting portion operatively engageable with the rear gutter wall, and a central cover portion extending between the front cover mounting portion and the rear cover mounting portion, the rear cover mounting portion including at least one scoring groove extending in a longitudinal direction, the rear cover mounting portion being made of a first material which is substantially flexible and which is separable along the at least one scoring groove to thereby reduce a width of the rear cover mounting portion, wherein the gutter cover is wider than the gutter.

2 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the first material includes a polymer.

3 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the rear cover mounting portion has a thickness between about ⅛ inch and 1/16 inch.

4 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the front cover mounting portion and the central cover portion are made of a second material different from the first material.

5 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the rear cover mounting portion extends upwardly with respect to the central cover portion when engaged with the gutter.

6 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the rear cover mounting portion extends above the front cover portion when engaged with the gutter.

7 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the rear cover mounting portion comprises at least one resilient fold extending longitudinally along the gutter cover to allow the rear cover portion to be resiliently deformed when abutting against the rear gutter wall.

8 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 7 , wherein the at least one resilient fold includes a plurality of rear portion folds spaced from each other in a widthwise direction relative to the gutter cover.

9 . A gutter cover for covering an opening of a gutter having a front gutter wall, a rear gutter wall and a bottom gutter wall defining a gutter channel, the gutter cover comprising:

a front cover mounting portion operatively engageable with the front gutter wall, a rear cover mounting portion operatively engageable with the rear gutter wall, and a central cover portion extending between the front cover mounting portion and the rear cover mounting portion, the rear cover mounting portion including at least one scoring groove extending in a longitudinal direction, the rear cover mounting portion being made of a first material which is substantially flexible and which is separable along the at least one scoring groove to thereby reduce a width of the rear cover mounting portion; and

a sealing member secured to an underside of the rear cover mounting portion, the sealing member being configured to abut the rear gutter wall to form a seal between the rear cover mounting portion and the rear gutter wall.

10 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the sealing member comprises a compressible pad.

11 . A gutter assembly comprising:

a gutter having a front gutter wall, a rear gutter wall and a bottom gutter wall defining a gutter channel having an open top; and

the gutter cover as claimed in claim 1 for covering the open top of the gutter.

12 . The gutter assembly as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the rear cover mounting portion abuts against an inner surface of the rear gutter wall when the gutter cover is engaged with the gutter.

13 . The gutter assembly as claimed in claim 12 , wherein a free edge of the rear cover mounting portion extends below an upper edge of the rear gutter wall.

14 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the rear cover mounting portion comprises a plurality of resilient folds extending longitudinally along the gutter cover and spaced from each other in a widthwise direction relative to the gutter to allow the rear cover portion to be resiliently deformed when abutting against the rear gutter wall.

15 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the rear cover mounting portion is curved convexly towards the gutter when engaged with the gutter.

16 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 12 , wherein the rear cover mounting portion extends above the front cover portion when engaged with the gutter.

17 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the gutter cover is wider than the gutter.

18 . A method for mounting a gutter cover to a gutter, for covering an opening of the gutter, the gutter having a front gutter wall, a rear gutter wall and a bottom gutter wall defining a gutter channel, the gutter cover comprising a front cover mounting portion operatively engageable with the front gutter wall, a rear cover mounting portion operatively engageable with the rear gutter wall, and a central cover portion extending between the front cover mounting portion and the rear cover mounting portion, the rear cover mounting portion including at least one scoring groove extending in a longitudinal direction, the rear cover mounting portion being made of a first material which is substantially flexible and which is separable along the at least one scoring groove to thereby reduce a width of the rear cover mounting portion,

the method comprising:

engaging the front cover mounting portion of the gutter cover with the front gutter wall of the gutter;

configuring the central cover portion of the gutter cover to cover a majority of the gutter channel;

folding upwardly the rear cover mounting portion;

removing a section of the rear cover mounting portion by separating the section from the gutter cover along the at least one scoring groove thereby reducing a width of the rear cover mounting portion; and

abutting the rear cover mounting portion against an inner surface of the rear gutter wall.

19 . The gutter cover as claimed in claim 7 , wherein the at least one scoring groove extends in the at least one resilient fold.
