Abstract

A patient side cart can have a first sensor at an arm and a second sensor at a main column. A sterile barrier system can include a first drape to cover at least a portion of the arm of the cart, a first attachment device connected to the first drape, a second drape to cover at least a portion of the main column of the cart, and a second attachment device connected to the second drape. In an installed position of the first drape, the first sensor can detect he first attachment device and in an installed position of the second drape, the second sensor can to detect the second attachment device. A system comprising the cart and barrier system can output a warning in response to one or both of the first sensor not detecting the first attachment device and the second sensor not detecting the second attachment device.

Claims (26)

1 . A system comprising:

a patient side cart comprising:

a first sensor at an arm of the patient side cart, and

a second sensor at a main column of the patient side cart; and

a sterile barrier system comprising:

a first drape sized and shaped to cover at least a portion of the arm of the patient side cart,

a first attachment device connected to the first drape and configured to install the first drape to at least the portion of the arm of the patient side cart,

a second drape sized and shaped to cover at least a portion of the main column of the patient side cart, and

a second attachment device connected to the second drape and configured to install the second drape to at least the portion of the main column of the patient side cart;

wherein in an installed position of the first drape on at least the portion of the arm of the patient side cart, the first sensor is positioned to detect a presence of the first attachment device;

wherein in an installed position of the second drape on the at least the portion of the main column of the patient side cart, the second sensor is positioned to detect a presence of the second attachment device; and

wherein the system is configured to output a warning in response to one or both of the following conditions:

a first condition in which the first sensor does not detect the presence of the first attachment device, and

a second condition in which the second sensor does not detect the presence of the second attachment device.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

one or both of the first attachment device and the second attachment device comprise a magnet.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

one or both of the first sensor and the second sensor comprise an inductive sensor.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

one or both of the first sensor and the second sensor comprise an optical sensor.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the sterile barrier system further comprises a rigid coupling member removably attachable to the portion of the arm and configured to attach to the first drape and secure the first drape to the arm.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein:

the rigid coupling member is removably attachable at an instrument actuation interface assembly of the arm.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the system further comprises a sterile adaptor configured to attach to an instrument actuation interface assembly of the arm and to transmit mechanical input from the instrument actuation interface assembly to an instrument coupled to the instrument actuation interface assembly.
