Abstract

In one aspect, the present disclosure is directed to a dispenser assembly for dispensing supplies of sheet material. The dispensing assembly can include a carrier supporting the supplies of sheet material and being moveable along a track between various dispensing positions. The dispenser assembly also can include a carrier pivoting assembly with a lever that engages one of the supplies of sheet material and rotates during dispensing thereof, as well as one or more biased pins connected to the lever and configured to engage locking features provided along the track to support the carrier in one of the dispensing positions. The biased pins further can be configured to retract with rotation of the lever such that they disengage the locking features so the carrier to moves along the track to different dispensing position. Other aspects also are described.

Claims (39)

1 . A dispenser for selectively dispensing sheet materials, the dispenser comprising:

a housing;

a first portion configured to support a first supply of sheet material;

a second portion to support a second supply of sheet material;

wherein the first portion is located adjacent a lower end of the housing with the first supply of sheet material in a dispensing position to enable access to the first supply of sheet material for dispensing sheet material therefrom, and the second portion is located adjacent an upper end of the housing in an upper position to restrict access to the second supply of sheet material;

a lever adapted to engage the first supply of sheet material when the first portion is initially located in a dispensing position; and

at least one locking feature located proximate the at least one of the first and second portions, the at least one locking feature configured to engage with the lever for substantially maintaining the first portion in its dispensing position; and

wherein the lever is configured to disengage the at least one locking feature when the sheet material of the first supply of sheet material has been substantially dispensed to enable the second supply of sheet material to move to a dispensing position to enable access to the second supply of sheet material for dispensing sheet material therefrom.

2 . The dispenser of claim 1 , further comprising a pair of opposed tracks along which the second portion is received and moved to its dispensing position.

3 . The dispenser of claim 2 , wherein the pair of opposed tracks each include a track offset that moves the second supply of sheet material towards an opening in the housing as the second supply of sheet material is moved toward its dispensing position.

4 . The dispenser of claim 1 , further comprising at least

one pin connected to the lever and configured to engage the at least one locking feature for supporting the second portion in the upper position; and wherein the at least one pin is caused to move to a retracted position with movement of the lever such that the at least one pin disengages from the at least one locking feature to enable movement of the second portion to its dispensing position.

5 . The dispenser of claim 4 , wherein the at least one pin comprises a pair of opposing pins arranged on opposite sides of the lever, and further comprising at least one biasing member connected to each of the opposing pins and configured to bias the opposing pins toward their retracted position.

6 . The dispenser of claim 5 , wherein the opposing pins each include a guidance feature configured to engage a corresponding guidance feature defined along the lever such that as the lever is moved, the guidance features of the opposing pins are moved along one or more corresponding guidance features of the lever to cause the opposing pins to be retracted from the at least one locking feature by the at least one biasing member.

7 . The dispenser of claim 1 , wherein the first portion includes a spindle holder configured to support the first supply of sheet material, and the second portion includes a spindle holder configured to support the second supply of sheet material.

8 . The dispenser of claim 1 , wherein the lever comprises a roller configured to engage the first supply of sheet material when the first supply of sheet material is in its dispensing position.

9 . A dispenser for selectively dispensing sheet materials, comprising:

at least one carrier having a first portion configured to receive and support a first supply of sheet material and a second portion configured to support a second supply of sheet material; and

a lever adapted to engage the first supply of sheet material when the first portion is initially located in a dispensing position; and

at least one locking feature located proximate the at least one of the first and second portions, the at least one locking feature configured to substantially maintain the first portion in its dispensing position; and

wherein the lever is configured to disengage the at least one locking feature when the sheet material of the first supply of sheet material has been substantially dispensed to enable the second supply of sheet material to move to a dispensing position to enable access to the second supply of sheet material for dispensing sheet material therefrom.

10 . The dispenser of claim 9 , further comprising

a housing including a discharge opening, a pivotable cover, and at least one track defined along the pivotable cover and along which the second portion is moved to its dispensing position.

11 . The dispenser of claim 10 , wherein the at least one track includes a track offset configured to guide at least one of the first and second supplies of sheet material toward the discharge opening when the at least one carrier is moved along the track.

12 . The dispenser of claim 9 , further comprising a carrier pivoting assembly configured to move the at least one carrier between a first position for dispensing sheet material from the first supply of sheet material and a second position for dispensing sheet material from the second supply of sheet material.

13 . The dispenser of claim 12 , wherein the carrier pivoting assembly further comprises at least one pin connected to the lever and configured to engage the at least one locking feature for supporting the second portion in the first position; and wherein the at least one pin is caused to move to a retracted position with movement of the lever such that the at least one pin disengages from the at least one locking feature to enable movement of the second portion to its dispensing position.

14 . The dispenser of claim 13 , wherein the at least one pin comprises a pair of opposing pins arranged on opposite sides of the lever and at least one biasing member connected to each of the opposing pins; wherein the opposing pins each include a guidance feature configured to engage a corresponding guidance feature defined along the lever such that as the lever is moved, the guidance features of the opposing pins are moved along one or more corresponding guidance features of the lever to cause the opposing pins to be retracted from the at least one locking feature by the at least one biasing member.

15 . The dispenser of claim 9 , wherein the first portion includes a spindle holder configured to support the first supply of sheet material, and the second portion includes a spindle holder configured to support the second supply of sheet material.

16 . The dispenser of claim 9 , wherein the lever comprises a roller configured to engage the first supply of sheet material when the first supply of sheet material is in its dispensing position.

17 . A dispenser for selectively dispensing sheet materials, the dispenser comprising:

a first portion configured to support a first supply of sheet material;

a second portion to support a second supply of sheet material;

a pair of opposed tracks along which the second portion is received and moved to its dispensing position;

a lever configured to engage the first supply of sheet material when the first supply of sheet material is located in a first dispensing position for dispensing sheet material from the first supply of sheet material;

wherein the lever is configured to pivot toward a collapsed position as sheet material is dispensed from the first supply of sheet material to a collapsed position; and

wherein when the lever in the collapsed position, the second supply of sheet material is moved to a second dispensing position.

18 . The dispenser of claim 17 , further comprising at least one locking feature located proximate the at least one of the first and second portions, the at least one locking feature configured to substantially block movement of the second supply of sheet material to the second dispensing position; wherein the lever is configured to disengage the at least one locking feature when in the collapsed position and the first supply of sheet material has been substantially dispensed to enable the second supply of sheet material to move to the second dispensing position to enable access to the second supply of sheet material for dispensing sheet material therefrom.

19 . The dispenser of claim 17 , wherein the first portion includes a spindle holder configured to support the first supply of sheet material, and the second portion includes a spindle holder configured to support the second supply of sheet material.

20 . The dispenser of claim 17 , further comprising a housing including a discharge opening and a cover, and wherein each of the opposed tracks includes a track offset that moves the second supply of sheet material towards the discharge opening of the housing as the second supply of sheet material is moved toward the second dispensing position.
