Internet of things event management systems and methods
Internet of Things (IoT) event objects can be tailored to specific device types and capabilities. An IoT event object can use a flexible definition of an event that can be reconfigured. An IoT event object allows for the ability to set different triggering conditions and priorities. Individual event definitions can be extended to create more complex events. A Notification Handler supports sending a request or command in response to an event that requires action.
1 . A method implemented by a service layer in an Internet of Things (IoT) network, the method comprising:
determining that conditions of a plurality of event expressions each defined in one of a plurality of event definitions of an event object have been met, the conditions of each of the event expressions using a value from at least one resource in the IoT network and comprising one or more of an operand, an operator, or a threshold value;
wherein the event object is stored at the service layer and comprises a control handler that includes a state value which indicates how an event is to be evaluated,
wherein the control handler is configured to combine two or more of the event definitions with one another,
wherein the event definitions each include a trigger condition that indicates how to evaluate the event expressions and, when the trigger condition is met, triggers an evaluation of the event object, and
wherein the service layer evaluates the event expressions based on a priority of each of the trigger conditions; and
based on determining that the conditions of the event expressions have been met, producing an indication that the conditions of the event expressions have been met.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the service layer is implemented in a server, gateway or other node of the IoT network.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the event expressions are complex event expressions using data from multiple resources.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the resource is located outside the service layer.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the event expressions are created by an application outside the service layer.
6 . A device comprising a processor and a memory storing computer executable instructions which when executed by the processor cause the device to perform operations of an instance of a service layer of an Internet of Things (IoT) network, the operations comprising:
evaluating conditions of a plurality event expressions each defined in one of a plurality of event definitions of an event object, the conditions of each of the event expressions using a value from at least one resource in the IoT network and comprising one or more of an operand, an operator, or a threshold value, wherein the event object is stored at the service layer and comprises a control handler that includes a state value which indicates how an event is to be evaluated,
wherein the control handler is configured to combine two or more of the event definitions with one another,
wherein the event definitions each include a trigger condition that indicates how to evaluate the event expressions and, when the trigger condition is met, triggers an evaluation of the event object, and
wherein the service layer evaluates the event expressions based on a priority of each of the trigger conditions; and
based on determining that the conditions of the event expressions have been met, producing an indication that the conditions of the event expressions have been met.
7 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the device comprises a server, a gateway or other node of the IoT network.
8 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the event expressions are complex event expressions using data from multiple resources.
9 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the resource is located outside the service layer.
10 . The device of claim 6 , wherein the event expressions are created by an application outside the service layer.
