Abstract

A cellular trail camera system is disclosed and includes a housing; a mounting bracket for mounting the camera; a visible sensor; an infrared sensor; and a plurality of Fresnel lenses each operable to be individually mounted to or with the infrared sensor and to focus infrared light to the infrared sensor from a different direction. One of the Fresnel lenses may be mounted to or with the housing during operation. The housing includes a wireless transceiver, which may communicate via a cellular network. The camera may communicate with a wireless communication device via the wireless transceiver. The camera may communicate images and/or video to the wireless device. The infrared sensor may include a plurality of elements. The camera may be powered by a solar cell that is mounted on the camera or remote from the camera. The visible sensor may be activated when the infrared sensor detects a heat-generating object.

Claims (34)

1 . A camera system, comprising:

a plurality of lenses, wherein each lens has a respective angle-of-view; and

a camera comprising a visible light sensor, a visible lens operable to provide the visible light sensor with a visible field-of-view, an infrared sensor, and a lens mount operable to mount one of the plurality of lenses to the camera so as to direct infrared light in the angle-of-view of the mounted lens to the infrared sensor, wherein the camera is operable to capture images in the visible field-of-view of the visible lens with the visible light sensor in response to motion detected based on the infrared light the mounted lens directs to the infrared sensor.

2 . The camera system of claim 1 , wherein the camera is further operable to:

present the visible field-of-view of the visible light sensor; and

present a visual depiction of the angle-of-view for the mounted lens in relation to the visible field-of-view of the visible light sensor.

3 . The camera system of claim 2 , wherein:

the camera comprises a wireless transceiver operable to receive a code that identifies the mounted lens; and

the camera is operable to present the visual depiction of the angle-of-view for the mounted lens based on the received code.

4 . The camera system of claim 2 , wherein the camera is operable to present the visual depiction of the angle-of-view for the mounted lens as an overlay over an image captured by the visible light sensor.

5 . The camera system of claim 3 , wherein the wireless transceiver is operable to communicate via a cellular network.

6 . The camera system of claim 3 , wherein the camera is operable to present the visual depiction of the angle-of-view for the mounted lens to a wireless device via the wireless transceiver of the camera.

7 . The camera system of claim 6 , wherein the camera is operable to communicate images captured by the visible light sensor to the wireless device.

8 . The camera system of claim 1 , wherein the infrared sensor comprises a plurality of elements.

9 . The camera system of claim 1 , comprising a solar cell coupled to the camera and operable to power the camera.

10 . The camera system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the plurality of lenses is a plastic Fresnel lens.

11 . A method of remote imaging, the method comprising:

mounting a lens of a plurality of lenses to a camera, wherein each lens has a respective angle-of-view, and wherein the angle-of-view of the mounted lens corresponds to a desired angle-of-detection;

directing, with the mounted lens, infrared light in the angle-of-view for the mounted lens to an infrared sensor; and

capturing images with a visible light sensor of the camera in response to motion detected by the infrared sensor based on the infrared light that the mounted lens directs to the infrared sensor.

12 . The method of claim 11 , comprising:

presenting a visible field-of-view of the visible light sensor; and

presenting a visual depiction of the angle-of-view for the mounted lens in relation to the visible field-of-view of the camera.

13 . The method of claim 11 , comprising:

scanning a code that identifies the mounted lens; and

identifying the mounted lens and its angle-of-view based on the scanned code.

14 . The method of claim 11 , comprising:

receiving, with a wireless transceiver of the camera, a code that identifies the mounted lens; and

identifying, with the camera, the mounted lens and its angle-of-view based on the received code.

15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein presenting the

presenting an image captured by the visible light sensor; and

presenting a visual depiction of the angle-of-view for the mounted lens as an overlay over the image captured by the visible light sensor.

16 . The method of claim 15 , comprising wirelessly transmitting the image captured by the visible light sensor and the visual depiction of the angle-of-view for the mounted lens to a wireless device.

17 . The method of claim 11 , comprising wirelessly transmitting images captured by the visible light sensor to a wireless device.
