Abstract

Systems and processes for providing search user interfaces are provided. An example process includes while displaying a home screen, in response to detecting a gesture input, displaying a search user interface; while displaying the search user interface, detecting an input selecting a result; in response to detecting the input selecting the result, displaying an application user interface associated with the result; while displaying the application user interface: detecting an input; and in response to detecting the input: in accordance with a determination that the input is detected before a time threshold, displaying the search user interface with a state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result; in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected after the time threshold or after another input is detected, displaying the home screen.

Claims (135)

1 . An electronic device, comprising:

one or more processors;

a memory; and

one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for:

while displaying a home screen on a display of the electronic device, detecting a predetermined gesture input;

in response to detecting the predetermined gesture input, displaying a search user interface on the display of the electronic device;

while displaying the search user interface on the display of the electronic device, detecting an input selecting a result displayed in the search user interface;

in response to detecting the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, displaying an application user interface associated with the result;

while displaying the application user interface associated with the result:

detecting an input of a predetermined type on the display of the electronic device; and

in response to detecting the input of the predetermined type:

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected before a time threshold, displaying the search user interface with a state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface;

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected after the time threshold, displaying the home screen; and

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected after another input is detected in the application user interface, displaying the home screen.

2 . The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, displaying an animation transitioning from the search user interface to the application user interface associated with the result.

3 . The electronic device of claim 2 , wherein the animation includes changing an opacity of the search user interface.

4 . The electronic device of claim 2 , wherein the animation includes changing a size of the search user interface.

5 . The electronic device of claim 2 , wherein the animation includes displaying the search user interface with the selected portion highlighted.

6 . The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected before a time threshold, displaying an animation transitioning from the application user interface associated with the result to the search user interface.

7 . The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein the animation includes changing an opacity of the application user interface associated with the result.

8 . The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein the animation includes changing a size of the application user interface associated with the result.

9 . The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein the animation includes displaying the search user interface with the state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface.

10 . The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, storing the state of the search user interface.

The electronic device of claim 10 wherein storing the state of the search user interface includes storing data representing one or more of a position of the search user interface, a position of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, and a presence of a virtual keyboard.

12 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein displaying the search user interface with the state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface includes:

ceasing display of the application user interface associated with the result;

opening the search user interface; and

loading the stored state of the search user interface.

13 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the input of the predetermined type is an input of a first predetermined type, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

while displaying the application user interface associated with the result:

in response to detecting an input of a second predetermined type, displaying a plurality of affordances corresponding to a plurality of active applications.

14 . The electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active application are displayed over the search user interface, and wherein the search user interface is obscured from view.

15 . The electronic device of claim 13 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting the input of the second predetermined type, displaying an animation including:

reducing a size of the application user interface; and

displaying the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active applications.

16 . The electronic device of claim 13 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

while displaying the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active applications:

detecting the input of the first predetermined type; and

in response to detecting the input of the first predetermined type, displaying the search user interface.

17 . The electronic device of claim 13 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

while displaying the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active applications:

detecting an input of a third predetermined type; and

in response to detecting the input of the third predetermined type, displaying an animation of the plurality of affordances corresponding to the plurality of active applications scrolling.

18 . The electronic device of claim 1 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

detecting the predetermined gesture input; and

in response to detecting the predetermined gesture input, displaying the search user interface in a default state.

19 . A method, comprising:

at an electronic device with one or more processors and memory:

while displaying a home screen on a display of the electronic device, detecting a predetermined gesture input;

in response to detecting the predetermined gesture input, displaying a search user interface on the display of the electronic device;

while displaying the search user interface on the display of the electronic device, detecting an input selecting a result displayed in the search user interface;

in response to detecting the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, displaying an application user interface associated with the result;

while displaying the application user interface associated with the result:

detecting an input of a predetermined type on the display of the electronic device; and

in response to detecting the input of the predetermined type:

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected before a time threshold, displaying the search user interface with a state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface;

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected after the time threshold, displaying the home screen; and

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected after another input is detected in the application user interface, displaying the home screen.

20 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

in response to detecting the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, displaying an animation transitioning from the search user interface to the application user interface associated with the result.

21 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected before a time threshold, displaying an animation transitioning from the application user interface associated with the result to the search user interface.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the animation includes displaying the search user interface with the state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface.

23 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

in response to detecting the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, storing the state of the search user interface.

24 . The method of claim 23 wherein storing the state of the search user interface includes storing data representing one or more of a position of the search user interface, a position of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, and a presence of a virtual keyboard.

25 . The method of claim 19 , wherein displaying the search user interface with the state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface includes:

ceasing display of the application user interface associated with the result;

opening the search user interface; and

loading the stored state of the search user interface.

26 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the input of the predetermined type is an input of a first predetermined type, the method further comprising:

while displaying the application user interface associated with the result:

in response to detecting an input of a second predetermined type, displaying a plurality of affordances corresponding to a plurality of active applications.

27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active application are displayed over the search user interface, and wherein the search user interface is obscured from view.

28 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:

in response to detecting the input of the second predetermined type, displaying an animation including:

reducing a size of the application user interface; and

displaying the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active applications.

29 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:

while displaying the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active applications:

detecting the input of the first predetermined type; and

in response to detecting the input of the first predetermined type, displaying the search user interface.

30 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:

while displaying the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active applications:

detecting an input of a third predetermined type; and

in response to detecting the input of the third predetermined type, displaying an animation of the plurality of affordances corresponding to the plurality of active applications scrolling.

31 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

detecting the predetermined gesture input; and

in response to detecting the predetermined gesture input, displaying the search user interface in a default state.

32 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more programs configured to be executed by one or more processors of an electronic device, the one or more programs including instructions for:

while displaying a home screen on a display of the electronic device, detecting a predetermined gesture input;

in response to detecting the predetermined gesture input, displaying a search user interface on the display of the electronic device;

while displaying the search user interface on the display of the electronic device, detecting an input selecting a result displayed in the search user interface;

in response to detecting the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, displaying an application user interface associated with the result;

while displaying the application user interface associated with the result:

detecting an input of a predetermined type on the display of the electronic device; and

in response to detecting the input of the predetermined type:

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected before a time threshold, displaying the search user interface with a state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface;

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected after the time threshold, displaying the home screen; and

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected after another input is detected in the application user interface, displaying the home screen.

33 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, displaying an animation transitioning from the search user interface to the application user interface associated with the result.

34 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in accordance with a determination that the input of the predetermined type is detected before a time threshold, displaying an animation transitioning from the application user interface associated with the result to the search user interface.

35 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 34 , wherein the animation includes displaying the search user interface with the state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface.

36 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, storing the state of the search user interface.

37 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 36 , wherein storing the state of the search user interface includes storing data representing one or more of a position of the search user interface, a position of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface, and a presence of a virtual keyboard.

38 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , wherein displaying the search user interface with the state corresponding to the detection of the input selecting the result displayed in the search user interface includes:

ceasing display of the application user interface associated with the result;

opening the search user interface; and

loading the stored state of the search user interface.

39 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , wherein the input of the predetermined type is an input of a first predetermined type, the one or more programs further including instructions for:

while displaying the application user interface associated with the result:

in response to detecting an input of a second predetermined type, displaying a plurality of affordances corresponding to a plurality of active applications.

40 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 39 , wherein the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active application are displayed over the search user interface, and wherein the search user interface is obscured from view.

41 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 39 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

in response to detecting the input of the second predetermined type, displaying an animation including:

reducing a size of the application user interface; and

displaying the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active applications.

42 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 39 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

while displaying the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active applications:

detecting the input of the first predetermined type; and

in response to detecting the input of the first predetermined type, displaying the search user interface.

43 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 39 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

while displaying the plurality of affordance corresponding to the plurality of active applications:

detecting an input of a third predetermined type; and

in response to detecting the input of the third predetermined type, displaying an animation of the plurality of affordances corresponding to the plurality of active applications scrolling.

44 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 32 , the one or more programs further including instructions for:

detecting the predetermined gesture input; and

in response to detecting the predetermined gesture input, displaying the search user interface in a default state.
