Abstract

Systems for generating content summaries in a web content management service, wherein in one embodiment a digital page editor and a component browser are launched to enable selection of a first content item. A summary of the first content item is automatically generated according to parameters that may have default values or values set by a user. The parameters may specify a size for the summary as a percentage of the first content item's size, as a particular number of lines, characters or words, as a size for a particular type of device, etc. The automatically generated summary is provided to the digital page editor, which can edit it and add it to the digital page. The summary is stored in a content repository as an independent summary content item with its own metadata.

Claims (44)

1 . A system for automatically generating content items, the system comprising:

a processor;

a data repository communicatively coupled to the processor and configured to store one or more content items; and

a non-transitory computer-readable medium that stores instructions that are executable by the processor to cause the processor to implement:

a component browser configured to:

access the one or more content items stored in the data repository; and

receive user input parameters;

a component properties module coupled to the component browser, wherein the component properties module retrieves metadata of the one or more content items;

an engine to automatically:

generate a suggestion indicating the one or more content items based on the user input parameters; and

provide summary content items based on the one or content items, wherein the summary content items are editable and stored separately from the one or more content items, wherein the summary content items are generated based on a size summary parameter, the size summary parameter provided as a selectable percentage, number of lines, words or characters, or the size summary parameter provided as a selectable device type having a corresponding display size parameter, and wherein the size summary parameter causes the summary content items to be generated at a corresponding size.

2 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a content tagging module implemented by the processor, the content tagging module configured to, for at least one of the content items, identify one or more corresponding keywords and ones of the one or more summaries related to the at least one of the content items, tag the at least one of the content items with identified keywords and identified ones of the one or more summaries, store the identified keywords and the identified ones of the one or more summaries as tags with the metadata of the at least one of the content items, and index tagged keywords and tagged ones of the one or more summaries to enable searching the at least one of the content items by the tagged keywords and the tagged ones of the one or more summaries.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to cause the processor to implement a web page editor, wherein the one or more summary content items are provided to the web page editor, and wherein the web page editor adds at least one of the one or more summary content items to a web page.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the data repository is configured to store metadata associated with each of the one or more content items and the one or more summary content items.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the component properties module is configured to provide the size summary parameter for the one or more summary content items as one of one or more summary parameters.

6 . A system for automatically generating content items, the system comprising:

one or more processors and computer readable media implementing:

a data repository, wherein the data repository stores one or more content items;

a component browser configured to:

access the one or more content items stored in the data repository; and

receive user input parameters;

a component properties module that is coupled to the component browser and is configured to retrieve metadata of the one or more content items; and

an engine to automatically:

generate a suggestion indicating the one or more content items based on the user input parameters; and

provide summary content items based on the one or content items, wherein the summary content items are editable and stored separately from the one or more content items, wherein the summary content items are generated based on a size summary parameter, the size summary parameter provided as a selectable percentage, number of lines, words, or characters, or the size summary parameter provided as a selectable device type having a corresponding display size parameter, and wherein the size summary parameter causes the summary content items to be generated at a corresponding size.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the one or more processors and computer readable media implement a web page editor, wherein the web page editor is configured to enable a user to add the one or more summary content items to a digital web page that is open for editing in the web page editor.

8 . The system of claim 7 , further comprising a content tagging module implemented by the one or more processors, the content tagging module configured to, for at least one of the content items, identify one or more corresponding keywords and ones of the one or more summaries related to the at least one of the content items, tag the at least one of the content items with identified keywords and identified ones of the one or more summaries, store the identified keywords and the identified ones of the one or more summaries as tags with the metadata of the at least one of the content items, and index tagged keywords and tagged ones of the one or more summaries to enable searching the at least one of the content items by the tagged keywords and the tagged ones of the one or more summaries.

9 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the system is configured to store the one or more summary content items in the data repository.

10 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the data repository is configured to store the metadata associated with each of the one or more content items and the one or more summary content items.

11 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the component browser is coupled to a component properties module, wherein the component properties module is configured to provide the size summary parameter for the one or more summary content items as one of one or more summary parameters, and wherein the summary is generated at the size determined by the summary parameters.

12 . The system of claim 6 , further comprising a web content management server coupled to the component browser and the data repository, wherein the component browser is configured to access the web content management server to retrieve information corresponding to the one or more content items stored in the data repository and to display the retrieved information to a user in a window displayed in a web page editor.

13 . A system for automatically generating content items, the system comprising:

one or more processors and computer readable media implementing:

a data repository, wherein the data repository stores one or more content items;

a component browser configured to:

access the one or more content items stored in the data repository; and

receive user input parameters;

a component properties module that is coupled to the component browser and is configured to access the one or more content items stored in the data repository, wherein the component properties module retrieves metadata of the one or more content items; and

an engine to automatically:

generate a suggestion indicating the one or more content items based on the user input parameters; and

provide summary content items based on the one or content items, wherein the summary content items are editable and stored separately from the one or more content items, wherein the summary content items are generated based on a size summary parameter, the size summary parameter provided as a selectable percentage, number of lines, words, or characters, or the size summary parameter provided as a selectable device type having a corresponding display size parameter, and wherein the size summary parameter causes the summary content items to be generated at a corresponding size.

14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the one or more content items comprises the one or more summary content items.

15 . The system of claim 13 , further comprising a content tagging module implemented by the one or more processors, the content tagging module configured to, for at least one of the content items, identify one or more corresponding keywords and summaries related to the at least one of the content items, present identified keywords and summaries to a user, receive a user selection of one or more of the identified keywords and summaries, tag the at least one of the content items with a selected keywords and summaries, and store the selected keywords and summaries as tags with the metadata of the at least one of the content items.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the at least one of the content items comprises the one or more summary content items.
