Abstract

A docking device for docking a prosthetic valve at a native valve of a heart includes a coiled body and a high friction sleeve. The coiled body has an upper region, a central region, and a lower region. The docking device is configured to be implanted at the native valve with the upper region positioned in a first chamber of the heart, the lower region positioned in a second chamber of the heart, and the central region positioned to extend around a plurality of leaflets of the native valve. A high friction sleeve covers at least a portion of the central region. The high friction sleeve comprises a material configured to generate more friction between the prosthetic valve and the docking device than an exterior surface of the coiled body.

Claims (18)

1 . A docking device for docking a prosthetic valve at a native valve of a heart, the docking device comprising:

a coiled body having an upper region, a central region, an ascending portion that connects the central region to the upper region, and a lower region, wherein the docking device is configured to be implanted at the native valve with the upper region positioned in a first chamber of the heart, the lower region positioned in a second chamber of the heart, and the central region positioned to extend around a plurality of leaflets of the native valve; and

a high friction sleeve positioned over a portion of the coiled body to cover an entirety of the central region and leave the ascending portion uncovered by the high friction sleeve, wherein the high friction sleeve has a higher coefficient of friction compared to portions of an exterior surface of the coiled body that are uncovered by the high friction sleeve to generate friction between the prosthetic valve and the high friction sleeve.

2 . The docking device of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the lower region is not covered by the high friction sleeve.

3 . The docking device of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the upper region is not covered by the high friction sleeve.

4 . The docking device of claim 1 , wherein the high friction sleeve includes a braided layer.

5 . The docking device of claim 4 , wherein the braided layer is a PET braid.

6 . The docking device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the coiled body and the high friction sleeve are configured to promote tissue ingrowth.

7 . A system for implanting a prosthetic valve in a native mitral valve of a heart, the system comprising:

a prosthetic heart valve comprising a frame;

a docking device comprising:

a coiled body having an upper region, a central region, an ascending portion that connects the central region to the upper region, and a lower region, wherein the docking device is configured to be implanted at the native mitral valve with the upper region positioned in a left atrium of the heart, the lower region positioned in a left ventricle of the heart, and the central region positioned to extend around a plurality of leaflets of the native mitral valve; and

a high friction sleeve positioned over a portion of the coiled body to cover an entirety of the central region and leave the ascending portion uncovered by the high friction sleeve, wherein the high friction sleeve has a higher coefficient of friction compared to portions of an exterior surface of the coiled body that are uncovered by the high friction sleeve to generate friction between the prosthetic heart valve and the high friction sleeve.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein at least a portion of the lower region is not covered by the high friction sleeve.

9 . The system of claim 7 , wherein at least a portion of the upper region is not covered by the high friction sleeve.

10 . The docking device of claim 7 , wherein the high friction sleeve includes a braided layer.

11 . The docking device of claim 10 , wherein the braided layer is a PET braid.

12 . The docking device of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the coiled body and the high friction sleeve are configured to promote tissue ingrowth.
