Abstract

Disclosed are systems, apparatus, methods, and computer readable media for suppressing network feed activities using an information feed in an on-demand database service environment. In one embodiment, a message is received, including data indicative of a user action. An entity associated with the user action is identified, where the entity is a type of record stored in a database. A type of the entity is identified. It is determined whether the entity type is a prohibited entity type. When the entity type is not a prohibited entity type, the message data is saved to one or more tables in the database. The tables are configured to store feed items of an information feed capable of being displayed on a device. When the entity type is a prohibited entity type, the saving of the message data, to the one or more tables in the database configured to store the feed items, is prohibited.

Claims (45)

1 . A system for using table notifications to generate automatic feed messages, the system comprising:

a database system implemented using a server system, the database system configurable to cause:

detecting that a parent record is inserted or updated on a specific task table by at least identifying a state change to a task;

determining that notification conditions of a configurable rule are met by at least:

identifying a child record related to the parent record, and

detecting a change to one or more of: a configuration item of the parent record or a category of the parent record;

responsive to detecting that the parent record is inserted or updated on the specific task table and determining that the notification conditions are met, running the configurable rule to at least generate a message identifying one or more updates to one or more fields;

posting the message to a specified group or to a feed, the feed having content forming a searchable knowledge source for sharing information within an organization; and

storing or updating at least the child record to have the one or more updates to the one or more fields.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the table notifications are supported for task tables and task types by default.

3 . The system of claim 1 , the database system further configurable to cause:

creating a child record by at least copying details of a parent record and linking the child record to the parent record.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the feed is a record feed associated with a record, the record feed allowing users to work on tasks and records through an interface.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein users can post, reply to, and rate messages in the feed.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the feed is configurable to generate automatic messages when specific records are updated throughout the system.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein users can subscribe to receive email notifications when new messages are posted in the feed.

8 . A computer program product comprising program code for using table notifications to generate automatic feed messages and capable of being executed by at least one processor when retrieved from a non-transitory computer-readable medium, the program code comprising instructions configurable to cause:

detecting that a parent record is inserted or updated on a specific task table by at least identifying a state change to a task;

determining that notification conditions of a configurable rule are met by at least:

identifying a child record related to the parent record, and

detecting a change to one or more of: a configuration item of the parent record or a category of the parent record;

responsive to detecting that the parent record is inserted or updated on the specific task table and determining that the notification conditions are met, running the configurable rule to at least generate a message identifying one or more updates to one or more fields;

posting the message to a specified group or to a feed, the feed having content forming a searchable knowledge source for sharing information within an organization; and

storing or updating at least the child record to have the one or more updates to the one or more fields.

9 . The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the table notifications are supported for task tables and task types by default.

10 . The computer program product of claim 8 , the instructions further configurable to cause:

creating a child record by at least copying details of a parent record and linking the child record to the parent record.

11 . The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the feed is a record feed associated with a record, the record feed allowing users to work on tasks and records through an interface.

12 . The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein users can post, reply to, and rate messages in the feed.

13 . The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein the feed is configurable to generate automatic messages when specific records are updated throughout a system.

14 . The computer program product of claim 8 , wherein users can subscribe to receive email notifications when new messages are posted in the feed.

15 . A computer-implemented method for using table notifications to generate automatic feed messages and comprising:

detecting that a parent record is inserted or updated on a specific task table by at least identifying a state change to a task;

determining that notification conditions of a configurable rule are met by at least:

identifying a child record related to the parent record, and

detecting a change to one or more of: a configuration item of the parent record or a category of the parent record;

responsive to detecting that the parent record is inserted or updated on the specific task table and determining that the notification conditions are met, running the configurable rule to at least generate a message identifying one or more updates to one or more fields;

posting the message to a specified group or to a feed, the feed having content forming a searchable knowledge source for sharing information within an organization; and

storing or updating at least the child record to have the one or more updates to the one or more fields.

16 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the table notifications are supported for task tables and task types by default.

17 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , further comprising:

creating a child record by at least copying details of a parent record and linking the child record to the parent record.

18 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the feed is a record feed associated with a record, the record feed allowing users to work on tasks and records through an interface.

19 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein users can post, reply to, and rate messages in the feed.

20 . The computer-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the feed is configurable to generate automatic messages when specific records are updated throughout a system.
