Abstract

In the toner cartridge recycling and remanufacturing industry, used xerographic toner cartridges are reconditioned and refilled with toner. The present invention is directed to a method of reassembling of toner cartridges that may not have sufficient securing surfaces to allow the cartridge to be physically held together using an external securing device. The present invention provides for an efficient way of reassembling a toner cartridge once it has been disassembled, by allowing removable reassembly of a toner cartridge. The present invention, used in conjunction with mounting screws, will provide a secure fastening method for reassembling of a toner cartridge. By taking advantage of the present invention's ability to be used repeatedly, the toner cartridge may be refurbished multiple times.

Claims (41)

1. A method for reassembling a used toner cartridge comprising the steps of:

providing a toner cartridge assembly, said toner cartridge assembly having an endplate, a toner hopper assembly, a waste bin assembly and a mounting area, said endplate connecting said toner hopper assembly and said waste bin assembly, said mounting area located on said toner cartridge assembly,

removing said endplate from the toner cartridge assembly,

creating a hole in the endplate,

mating an anchoring fixture with the mounting area,

reattaching said endplate to the toner cartridge by using a securing device, said securing device extending through the hole and connecting to the anchoring fixture.

2. The method in claim 1 wherein the mounting area is an orifice.

3. The method in claim 1 wherein the anchoring fixture is mated to the mounting area by pressure.

4. The method in claim 3 wherein the anchoring fixture further comprises a contact rib.

5. The method in claim 1 wherein the anchoring fixture is mated to the mounting area by glue.

6. The method in claim 1 wherein the anchoring fixture is metal.

7. The method in claim 1 wherein the anchoring fixture is plastic.

8. The method in claim 1 wherein the anchoring fixture is cylindrical.

9. A method for reassembling a used toner cartridge comprising the steps of:

providing a toner cartridge assembly, said toner cartridge assembly having an endplate, a toner hopper assembly, a waste bin assembly, said endplate connecting said toner hopper assembly and said waste bin assembly, said toner hopper assembly and waste bin assembly together having an orifice,

removing said endplate from the toner cartridge assembly,

creating a hole in the endplate,

cleaning the orifice,

attaching an anchoring fixture into the orifice,

reattaching said endplate to the toner cartridge by screwing a securing screw through the hole and into the anchoring fixture.

10. The method in claim 9 wherein a guide fixture is used to clean the orifice.

11. The method in claim 10 wherein a set-depth drill bit is used to clean the orifice.

12. The method in claim 9 wherein the anchoring fixture is attached to the orifice by pressure.

13. The method in claim 12 wherein the anchoring fixture further comprises a contact rib.

14. The method in claim 9 wherein the anchoring fixture is attached to the orifice by glue.

15. The method in claim 9 wherein the anchoring fixture is metal.

16. The method in claim 9 wherein the anchoring fixture is plastic.

17. The method in claim 9 wherein the anchoring fixture is cylindrical.

18. An anchoring fixture for use in a remanufactured toner cartridge comprising:

a top surface, a supporting wall located below the top surface and connected to said top surface, said supporting wall having a means for mating with a mounting location, said mounting location positioned on said remanufactured toner cartridge.

19. The anchoring fixture as in claim 18 further comprising a securing fixture orifice.

20. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the mounting location is an orifice.

21. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the anchor has an additional supporting wall.

22. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the means for mating comprises a contact rib on said supporting wall.

23. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the means for mating further comprises an exterior surface located on said supporting wall and said contact rib is located on said exterior surface.

24. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the means for mating further comprises an interior surface located on said supporting wall and said contact rib is located on said interior surface.

25. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the means for mating is an adhesive.

26. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the means for mating is a compression fit, said compression fit being applied by the supporting wall of the anchor against the mounting location.

27. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the anchoring fixture is metal.

28. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the anchoring fixture is plastic.

29. The anchoring fixture as in claim 19 wherein the anchoring fixture is cylindrical.
