Abstract

A connection device is provided for interconnecting a grid element to a support rail for a lower blanking tool of a carton die cutting machine. The connection device includes a generally flat base having first and second sides and an inner surface for engaging the grid element. First and second connection arms depend from opposite sides of the base. The connection arms have terminal ends receivable in corresponding first grooves in the support rail. A flyer extends from the connection device for raising a scrap portion of the carton above the grid element after a blanking operation.

Claims (26)

1. A frame assembly for a lower blanking tool of a carton die cutting machine, comprising:

a rigid outer frame;

a plurality of lengthwise and crosswise bars extending within the outer frame and defining an inner grid;

a grid element positionable on the inner grid, the grid element including an upper surface having a recess therein; and

a connection device partially receivable in the recess for interconnecting the grid element to a bar of the inner grid, the connection device including a generally U-shaped clip:

defining a recess for receiving a portion of the grid element; and

including an upper surface substantially flush with the upper surface of the grid element with the connection device received in the recess of the grid element and first and second connection arms having corresponding terminal ends that include hooked portions.

2. The frame assembly of claim 1 wherein each of the bars includes first and second sides having recesses formed therein.

3. The frame assembly of claim 1 wherein the connection arms are movable between a first connecting position wherein the connection device may be positioned over the grid element and a second connected position wherein the terminal ends are received in corresponding recesses in the selected bar.

4. The frame assembly of claim 1 further comprising a flyer extending from the connection device for raising a portion of the carton above the grid element.

5. The frame assembly of claim 4 further comprising a flyer mounting element for interconnecting the flyer to the connection device.

6. A frame assembly for a lower blanking tool of a carton die cutting machine, comprising:

a rigid outer frame;

a plurality of lengthwise and crosswise bars extending within the outer frame and defining an inner grid;

a component positionable adjacent the inner grid, the component including an upper surface having a recess therein; and

a connection device for interconnecting the component to a bar of the inner grid, the connection device:

having an upper surface;

being partially receivable in the recess such that the upper surface of the connection device is substantially flush with the upper surface of the component;

including a generally U-shaped clip defining a recess for receiving a portion of the component therein;

wherein:

each of bars includes first and second sides having recesses formed therein;

the connection device includes first and second connection arms, each connection arm having a terminal end receivable in a corresponding recess in a selected bar; and

the terminal ends of the connection arms include hooked portions.

7. The frame assembly of claim 6 wherein the connection arms are movable between a first connecting position wherein the connection device may be positioned over the component and a second connected position wherein the terminal ends are received in corresponding recesses in the selected bar.

8. The frame assembly of claim 6 further comprising a flyer extending from the connection device for raising a portion of the carton above the component.

9. The frame assembly of claim 8 further comprising a flyer mounting element for interconnecting the flyer to the connection device.
