Abstract

A filter piston apparatus that dispenses predetermined volumes of pulverulent bulk material has a metering chamber which accommodates in each case a predetermined volume of bulk material, which is present at the end of a circular-cylindrical bore and which has its base formed by a filter of the piston. The metering chamber is attached to a positive-pressure or negative-pressure gas source through the filter, which is permeable to gas but impermeable to the bulk material. A piston wall has a transverse slot and an inner groove located radially opposite the transverse slot, such that the filter can be pushed into the slot from the outside and, when seated in the piston, can be secured on both sides in the axial direction of the piston along it periphery.

Claims (56)

1. A filter piston apparatus for dispensing respectively predetermined volumes of pulverulent bulk material, the filter piston having:

a hollow-cylindrical piston arranged in a circular-cylindrical bore,

a filter which is formed as a plate and is permeable to gas but impermeable to the bulk material, and

a metering chamber which accommodates a predetermined volume of bulk material, is present at the end of the circular-cylindrical bore and has a base formed by the filter,

the metering chamber being further configured to be attached to a positive-pressure or negative-pressure gas source through the filter, wherein

a circumferential wall of the piston has a transverse slot and an inner groove located radially opposite the transverse slot, such that

the filter can be pushed at an exterior surface of the circumferential wall of the piston into the slot until the filter is seated in the piston, such that the filter is secured in the slot on both sides of the filter, in the axial direction of the piston, along a peripheral edges of the filter.

2. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 , wherein

the filter is secured on both sides in the axial direction in the slot by the circumferential wall of the piston.

3. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the circumferential wall of the piston is connected integrally on both sides of the filter in the axial direction.

4. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the circumferential wall of the metering chamber, within the piston, has a frustoconical widening which increases in cross section in a direction moving from the filter toward a mouth of the piston.

5. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

a tight seal for the bulk material, designed in particular as an O-ring, is present between the circumferential wall of piston and the circular-cylindrical bore.

6. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 5 , wherein

the O-ring is seated in an encircling transverse groove in the circumferential wall of the piston.

7. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the filter has in cross section, at least in one sub-region, a partially circular surface of which the radius is no larger than the internal radius of the piston in the region of the inner groove.

8. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the filter has in cross section at least two partially circular surfaces of which the radii are of different magnitudes such that

the filter can be pushed into the inner groove by way of the partially circular surface having the radius of smaller magnitude.

9. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 8 , wherein

the circumferential angle of the smaller partially circular surface is less than or equal to 180 degrees.

10. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 8 , wherein

the radius of the larger partially circular surface is approximately equal to the external radius of the piston.

11. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 7 , wherein

the radius of the smaller partially circular surface is approximately equal to the internal radius of the inner groove.

12. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 7 , wherein

the filter has in cross-section a radius which is no larger than the internal radius of the piston in the region of the groove base.

13. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the filter comprises a non-elastic material selected from the group consisting of sintered glass and sintered metal.

14. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 13 , wherein

the thickness of the filter in the axial direction is adapted to the axial height of the transverse slot and of the transverse groove, such that it can be press fit in and out of the transverse slot and the transverse groove of the piston.

15. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the filter further comprises a support with an attached filter medium.

16. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 15 , wherein

the filter medium comprises a non-elastic material selected from the group consisting of sintered glass and sintered metal.

17. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the filter comprises a plurality of differently permeable, porous filter layers,

a filter layer having the finest pores is positioned as the closest filter layer to the interior of the metering chamber.

18. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the filter is elastically compressible, and

the thickness and compressibility of the filter in the axial direction is such that it can be a press fit into the transverse slot and the transverse groove.

19. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the filter comprises felt material.

20. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the filter comprises nylon fabric.

21. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

the filter further comprises a support which retains a filter medium, such that the support has a dimensionally stabilizing effect on the filter medium.

22. The filter piston apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 , wherein

a radially outer surface of the filter is impermeable to bulk material, at least in a region of filter that is positioned in the transverse slot.
