[18F]-furanosylpurine derivatives and uses thereof
2′-Deoxy-2′-[ 18 F]-labeled and 3′-deoxy-3′-[ 18 F]-labeled purine nucleoside analogs such as [ 18 F]-FAA and [ 18 F]-FXA have been found to have desirable properties for use as imaging agents. The analogs are particularly useful for in vivo imaging of biological material including organ tissues (e.g., heart, liver, brain and kidneys) and tumors. Methods for the preparation of the [ 18 F]-FAA and [ 18 F]-FXA are also provided.
1. A method for imaging the heart in a warm-blooded subject comprising the steps of
administering a composition comprising [ 18 F]-FXA to said subject in an amount sufficient to provide an imageable concentration of said [ 18 F]-FXA in myocardial tissue of said subject; and
detecting the radioactivity of the [ 18 F]-FXA in said tissue, thereby forming an image of said heart.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said radioactivity is measured by positron emission topography.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said [ 18 F]-FXA is administered intravenously.
4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the risk of vascular disease in the subject, wherein said risk is based on comparing said image to an image obtained from a normal subject.
5. The method of claim 4 , wherein said vascular disease is selected from the group consisting of atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease (CAD), myocardial infarction (MI), ischemia, stroke, peripheral vascular diseases, and venous thromboembolism.
