Abstract

The invention provides compounds of formula I: wherein Y is F, Cl or Br; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The compounds are effective antitumor agents. The invention also provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising a compound of formula I or a salt thereof, intermediates useful for preparing a compound of formula I, and therapeutic methods comprising administering a compound of formula I or a salt thereof to a mammal in need thereof.

Claims (18)

1. A compound of formula I:

wherein Y is F or Br;

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. The compound of claim 1 , wherein Y is F.

3. The compound of claim 1 , wherein Y is Br.

4. The compound of claim 1 , wherein the carbon bearing the methyl group is in the (R) configuration.

5. The compound of claim 1 , wherein the carbon bearing the methyl group is in the (S) configuration.

6. A compound of claim 1 which is 2-(4-(7-fluoro-8-methoxyquinolin-2-yloxy)phenoxy)propanoic acid.

7. A compound of claim 1 which is 2-(4-(7-bromo-8-methoxyquinolin-2-yloxy)phenoxy)propanoic acid.

8. A composition comprising a compound of claim 1 , in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier.

9. The composition of claim 8 wherein the composition is formulated for oral, parenteral, intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, or topical administration.

10. The composition of claim 9 wherein the composition is formulated for oral administration and is in the form of a tablet, buccal tablet, troche, capsule, elixir, suspension, syrup, or wafer.

11. The composition of claim 10 wherein the composition comprises at least 0.1 weight % of the compound of formula I.

12. The composition of claim 11 wherein the composition comprises between about 2 weight % to about 60 weight % of the compound of formula I.

13. The composition of claim 8 wherein the composition is formulated for administration by infusion or injection, and the pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier comprises water.

14. The composition of claim 13 wherein the composition comprises at least 0.1 weight % of the compound of formula I.

15. The composition of claim 14 wherein the composition comprises between about 2 weight % to about 60 weight % of the compound of formula I.

16. The composition of claim 13 wherein the compound of formula I is encapsulated in a liposome.
