Video game environment that tracks help and advice provided to other player characters
A virtual game environment in which characters are allowed to give help to one another and in which the game tracks the amount of helpfulness of each character is provided. Characters may be rewarded or paid for giving help to each other. In some embodiments, help may be given in the form of advice.
1. A method performed by a computer, comprising:
communicating across a network to a plurality of video game consoles,
in which each video game console comprises a CPU and a memory, and
in which each video game console is programmed to permit a video game to be played by a player who controls a respective player character in the video game;
providing to each video game console a virtual video game environment in which the plurality of player characters interact with one another;
determining that the first player character has provided, to the second player character, help in attempting to complete a game parameter;
increasing an amount of help points of the first player character;
decreasing an amount of help points of the second player character; and
displaying, to the first player, a numerical figure that indicates the help points of the first player character.
2. The method of claim 1 further comprising
determining if the second player character has successfully completed a game parameter after receiving the help from the first player character.
3. The method of claim 1 further comprising
providing a reward to the first player character upon determining that the amount of help points of the first player character is above a threshold.
4. The method of claim 3 wherein the virtual video game environment includes a plurality of levels and the reward is access to a new level.
5. The method of claim 1 further comprising a virtual market place in which players can post help-related requests.
6. The method of claim 5 wherein the help-related requests comprise requests for help.
7. The method of claim 5 wherein the help-related requests comprise offers to give help.
8. An apparatus comprising:
a computer that is operable to communicate across a network to a plurality of video game consoles,
in which each video game console comprises a CPU and a memory, and
in which each video game console is programmed to permit a video game to be played by a player who controls a respective player character in the video game;
in which the computer is programmed to:
provide, to each video game console, a virtual game environment which comprises a plurality of game parameters, and which permits the plurality of player characters to interact with one another;
determine that the first player character has provided, to the second player character, help in attempting to complete a game parameter;
increase an amount of help points of the first player character;
decrease an amount of help points of the second player character; and
display, to the first player, a numerical figure that indicates the help points of the first player character; and
a storage device, in communication with the computer, that stores a database configured to record the helpfulness of the player characters as they interact with the virtual game environment.
9. The apparatus of claim 8 in which the computer is further programmed to determine when the first player character has given help to the second player character.
10. The apparatus of claim 8 in which the computer is further programmed to identify the means by which the first player character can successfully complete a game parameter.
11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein the means by which the first player character can successfully complete the game parameter comprises giving help to the second player character.
12. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein the means by which the first player character can successfully complete the game parameter comprises receiving help from the second player character.
13. The apparatus of claim 8 in which the computer is further programmed to identify the game parameters that the second player character has successfully completed as the second player character has interacted with the virtual game environment.
