Methods for altering organ mass in plants
View Patent ↗The invention provides methods of altering organ mass, controlling fertility and enhancing asexual reproduction in plants through the modulation of plant growth and cell proliferation. The methods involve producing transgenic plants comprising a recombinant expression cassette containing a modified ANT nucleic acid linked to a plant promoter.
1. A method of selecting plants with decreased size or mass, the method comprising introducing into the plant an expression cassette containing a plant promoter operably linked to a nucleic acid encoding a truncated ANT polypeptide, wherein the nucleic acid is at least 80% identical to an ANT nucleic acid of nucleotides 1106-1339 of SEQ ID NO:1, wherein the ANT nucleic acid is no longer than 1422 nucleotides and does not encode one or more segments of an ANT polypeptide selected from the group consisting of the first transcriptional activation domain (TA1) and the C-terminal region; and selecting plants with decreased size or mass.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the nucleic acid encoding a truncated ANT polypeptide is operably linked to the plant promoter in the sense orientation.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the nucleic acid is at least 80% identical to an ANT nucleic acid of nucleotides 515-1936 of SEQ ID NO: 1.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the nucleic acid is at least 80% identical to an ANT nucleic acid of nucleotides 1010-1936 of SEQ ID NO: 1.
