Abstract

The present invention relates to novel chemical compounds, methods for their discovery, and their therapeutic use. In particular, the present invention provides benzodiazepine derivatives and related compounds and methods of using benzodiazepine derivatives and related compounds as therapeutic agents to treat a number of conditions associated with the faulty regulation of the processes of programmed cell death, autoimmunity, inflammation, hyperproliferation, and the like.

Claims (30)

1. A compound described by the following formula:

including both R and S enantiomeric forms and racemic mixtures;

R 14 and R 15 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and CH 3 ; and R 11 is OH;

wherein R 4 is CH 3 or a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic chain having at least 2 carbons; and

wherein R 5 is

wherein R 17 is hydrogen, halogen, or CH 3 .

2. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R 3 is selected from

the group consisting of:

wherein R 12 , R 13 , R 14 and R 15 are selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and CH 3 ; and R 11 is OH.

including both R and S enantiomeric forms and racemic mixtures;

wherein R′ is hydrogen, halogen, CH 3 , or a linear or branched saturated or unsaturated aliphatic chain having at least 2 carbons; and

wherein R 5 is CH 3 or a linear or branched, saturated or unsaturated aliphatic chain having at least 2 carbons.
