Abstract

Methods and compounds for treating neurodegenerative and other disorders. Included is the administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a compound having binding specificity for a p75 NTR receptor molecule. Enhanced survival of neural and other cells has been observed.

Claims (14)

1. A method of relieving or causing regression of Alzheimer's disease in a subject, comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a compound having the following structure:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. A method relieving or causing regression of Alzheimer's disease in a subject, comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of a compound having the following structure:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

3. A method of facilitating neural cell survival comprising treating a neural cell with a compound having the following structure:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

4. A method of facilitating neural cell survival comprising treating a neural cell with a compound having the following structure:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

5. A method for activating p75 NTR receptor molecule comprising contacting a cell p75 NTR receptor molecule with a compound having the following structure:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

6. A method for activating p75 NTR receptor molecule comprising contacting a cell containing p75 NTR receptor molecule with a compound having the following structure:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the cell is selected from the group consisting of neurons, oligodendrocytes, hair follicle cells and combinations thereof.

8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the cell is selected from the group consisting of neurons, oligodendrocytes, hair follicle cells and combinations thereof.
