Method of treating degenerative disorders of the nervous system by administration of fibrinogen fragment
View Patent ↗The invention herein related to methods and compositions for treating nervous system disorders. The methods comprise peptides that bind to receptors important in disease progression, thus attenuating the disease.
1. A method of treating a degenerative disorder of the nervous system, the method comprising administering to a mammalian subject in need thereof, a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising a peptide consisting of 19 amino acids and having at least 89% sequence identity with the peptide sequence YSMKKTTMKIIPFNRLTIG (SEQ ID NO: 1), wherein the degenerative disorder of the nervous system involves leakage of fibrinogen perivascularly in the brain.
2. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the peptide consists of the sequence YSMKKTTMKIIPFNRLTIG (SEQ ID NO: 1).
3. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the disorder is selected from the group consisting of multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, stroke and Alzheimer's Disease.
4. A method according to claim 1 , wherein the disorder is multiple sclerosis.
