Eubacterial tmRNA sequences and uses thereof
The present invention is directed to eubacterial tmDNA sequences and the corresponding tmRNA sequences. The present invention is further directed to alignments of eubacterial tmDNA sequences and the use of the sequences and sequence alignments for the development of antibacterial drugs. The present invention is also directed to the use of the sequences for the development of diagnostic assays.
1. An isolated nucleic acid sequence selected from the group consisting of a tmRNA sequence for Chlamydia trachomatis a DNA sequence consisting of a tmDNA sequence encoding said tmRNA sequence, and a DNA sequence consisting of a full-length complement of said tmDNA sequence, wherein the tmRNA sequence for Chlamydia trachomatis is the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 129.

A method for diagnosing a bacterial infection associated with Chlamydia trachomatis comprising determining the presence of a bacterial nucleic acid sequence selected from the group consisting a tmRNA sequence for Chlamydia trachomatis a DNA sequence consisting of a tmDNA sequence encoding said tmRNA sequence, and a DNA sequence consisting of a full-length complement of said tmDNA sequence, wherein the tmRNA sequence for Chlamydia trachomatis is the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 129.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the determination is made by performing an amplification-based assay.
4. The isolated nucleic acid sequence of claim 1 , wherein the nucleic acid sequence is the DNA sequence consisting of the tmDNA sequence encoding the tmRNA sequence for Chlamydia trachomatis.
5. The method of claim 2 , wherein the bacterial nucleic acid sequence is the DNA sequence consisting of the tmDNA sequence encoding the tmRNA sequence for Chlamydia trachomatis.
6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the bacterial nucleic acid sequence is the DNA sequence consisting of the tmDNA sequence encoding the tmRNA sequence for Chlamydia trachomatis.
