Abstract

A system and method for providing a subscription-based, electronic signage advertisement service to retailers may include establishing a retailer as a subscriber for use of an electronic display. A subscription agreement may enable the retailer to use the electronic display and receive communications services for content to be distributed to the electronic display. The electronic display may be provided to the retailer and configured to receive and display the content by configuring the electronic display as a network node for content to be distributed. The content may be stored in a data repository and distributed to the electronic display at the retailer. The content may be distributed via a communications network to the electronic display and displayed at the retailer.

Claims (30)

1. A method for providing a subscription-based, electronic signage advertisement service to retailers, said method comprising:

establishing a retailer as a subscriber for use of an electronic display, a subscription agreement enabling the retailer to use the electronic display and receive communications services for content to be distributed to the electronic display;

providing the electronic display to the retailer, the electronic display being configured to receive and display the content;

configuring the electronic display as a network node for content to be distributed;

storing content in a data repository, the content to be distributed to the electronic display at the retailer;

distributing the content via a communications network to the electronic display for display at the retailer; and

displaying the content on the electronic display.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said providing of the electronic display to the subscriber is performed without cost to the subscriber in lieu of subscription fees.

3. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a cost for communications services; and

billing the retailer for the communications services.

4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein determining a cost for communications includes determining a cost for communications services based on capacity.

5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein determining a cost for communications includes determining a cost for communications services based on capacity utilized over a time duration.

6. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

establishing a second retailer as a subscriber for use of a second electronic display, a second subscription agreement enabling the second retailer to receive communications services for second content to be distributed to the second electronic display;

providing the second electronic display to the second retailer, the electronic display being configured to receive and display the second content;

configuring the electronic display of the second retailer as a second network node for the second content to be distributed;

storing second content in the data repository, the second content to be distributed to the second electronic display at the second retailer;

distributing the second content to the second electronic display for display; and

displaying the second content on the second electronic display.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein establishing the retailer as a subscriber further includes providing the retailer with network equipment without cost, the network equipment being configured to receive and distribute the content set to the electronic display at the retailer.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein establishing the content includes providing advertisers with the ability to submit advertisements for distribution to the electronic display.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein establishing the content includes enabling the retailer to establish a playlist of content for communication to the electronic display.

10. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

establishing the retailer as a subscriber for use of a second electronic display, the subscription agreement enabling the retailer to receive communications services for second content to be distributed to the second electronic display;

providing the second electronic display to the retailer, the electronic display being configured to receive and display the second content;

configuring the electronic display of the retailer as a second network node for the second content to be distributed;

storing second content in the data repository, the second content to be distributed to the second electronic display at the retailer;

distributing the second content to the second electronic display for display at the retailer; and

displaying the second content on the second electronic display at the retailer.
