Abstract

The invention provides an apparatus, a device, and methods for imaging vasculature in a subject as well as an apparatus, a device and methods for treating abnormal vasculature in a subject.

Claims (18)

1. A device for visualizing one or more of the choroids and retina in the eye of a subject comprising:

(a) an afocal assembly comprising an objective assembly and a collimating assembly, wherein the objective assembly is configured to relay an aerial image of the subject's eye to the collimating assembly, and the collimating assembly collimates the image and relays it to an external pupil in image space;

(b) one or more proximal modules that are in optical communication with the afocal assembly through the external pupil; and

a proximal radiation module that emits radiation of sufficient wavelength and intensity to photocoagulate a dye.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the diameter of the ray bundle entering the afocal assembly from the one or more proximal modules is larger than the diameter of the ray bundle that is transmitted to the subject's eye.

3. The device of claim 2 , wherein the device comprises telecentric image space.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the external pupil comprises a first zone and a second zone, wherein the first zone is allocated for light energy traveling from one or more proximal modules to the afocal assembly, and the second zone is allocated for light energy traveling from the afocal assembly to one or more proximal modules.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a first proximal module that emits light energy in the infrared spectrum, said light energy being directed from the first proximal module to the afocal assembly through the external pupil.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a second proximal module that emits light energy in the visible spectrum, said light energy being directed from the first proximal module to the afocal assembly through the external pupil.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a third proximal module that comprises detectors for detecting light energy from the afocal assembly.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a fourth proximal module that emits a fixation beam.

9. The device of claim 1 , further comprising one or more telecentric lenses distal to one or more of the distal assemblies and proximal to the exterior pupil.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the one or more proximal assemblies have an external proximal device pupil.

11. A method of visualizing a subject's eye, comprising:

(a) administering to the subject at least one of a first dye and a second dye that emits in the infra red spectrum when it is excited; and

(b) imaging the subject's choroidal neovasculature or photocoagulating the second dye with the device of claim 1 .

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising administering to the subject a third dye that emits in the visible spectrum when it is excited and imaging the subject's retina with the device of claim 1 .

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the first dye is indocyanine green and the third dye is sodium fluorescein.
