Abstract

The present invention relates to novel, polynucleotides isolated from dwarf plants. The dwf4 polynucleotides that encode all, or a portion of, a DWF4 polypeptide, a cytochrome P450 enzyme that mediates multiple steps in synthesis of brassinosteriods. The present invention also relates to isolated polynucleotides that encode regulatory regions of dwf4. Uses of the dwf4 polypeptides and polynucleotides are also disclosed.

Claims (16)

1. A transgenic plant comprising at least one exogenous polynucleotide, said exogenous polynucleotide comprising a control element linked to a nucleic acid encoding a CYP90B cytochrome P450 polypeptide.

2. A transgenic plant prepared by a process comprising introducing into a plant cell at least one polynucleotide comprising a control element operably linked to a nucleic acid encoding a cytochrome P450 CYP90B polypeptide, under conditions wherein said plant cell is transformed, and growing said plant from said transformed plant cell.

3. The plant of claim 1 or 2 , wherein said plant is a monocot.

4. The plant of claim 1 or 2 , wherein said plant is a dicot.

5. The plant of claim 1 or 2 , wherein said control element directs expression in vegetative tissue of said plant.

6. The plant of claim 1 or 2 , wherein said control element directs expression in leaf tissue.

7. A transgenic plant cell comprising at least one exogenous polynucleotide, said exogenous polynucleotide comprising a control element linked to a nucleic acid encoding a CYP90B cytochrome P450 polypeptide.

8. The plant cell of claim 7 , wherein said plant cell is from a monocotyledonous plant.

9. The plant cell of claim 7 , wherein said plant cell is from a dicotyledonous plant.

10. The plant cell of claim 7 , wherein said control element directs expression in vegetative tissue of a plant.

11. The plant cell of claim 10 , wherein said vegetative tissue is leaf tissue.

12. A cultured plant tissue comprising a transgenic plant cell, said transgenic plant cell comprising at least one exogenous polynucleotide, said exogenous polynucleotide comprising a control element linked to a nucleic acid encoding a CYP90B cytochrome P450 polypeptide.

13. The plant tissue of claim 12 , wherein said transgenic plant cell is from a monocotyledonous plant.

14. The plant tissue of claim 12 , wherein said transgenic plant cell is from a dicotyledonous plant.

15. The plant tissue of claim 12 , wherein said control element directs expression in vegetative tissue of said plant.

16. The plant tissue of claim 15 , wherein said vegetative tissue is leaf tissue 1.
