Abstract

A removable louver shutter comprises a shutter frame defining an opening and inserts mounted to the frame proximate to the opening. End caps are rotatably mounted along the inserts. Generally planar louvers are each removably attached between corresponding pairs of the end caps so as to be disposed within the opening. At least one link bar connects the end caps so as to move the louvers between an open position and a closed position.

Claims (18)

1. A shutter mountable to a window frame that is installed around a window, the shutter comprising:

a shutter frame having stiles and spreaders that define a shutter opening;

a plurality of inserts partially disposed within the stiles so that portions of the inserts are proximate the shutter opening;

a plurality of insert apertures evenly spaced along the inserts;

a plurality of end caps each comprising a louver side, a stile side and a stile button extending from the stile side; and

a plurality of louvers removably attached between corresponding pairs of the end caps at the louver sides,

wherein each of the stile buttons are snapped into a corresponding one of the insert apertures so as to rotatably mount the end caps along the inserts, and

wherein the shutter frame is mountable with hinges to the window frame and movable between a closed position disposed within the window frame and an open position swung out of the window frame.

2. The shutter according to claim 1 wherein the louvers each comprise a generally planar, laminated board portion.

3. A shutter comprising:

a stile comprising a first laminated board portion having a full-length groove cut along an edge of the first laminated board portion,

wherein the stile is fixedly attached as part of an assembled shutter frame, and

wherein the shutter frame defines an opening and the full-length groove faces the opening;

a flexible insert pressed into and held within the groove so as to at least substantially cover the length of the groove;

a plurality of end caps rotatably mounted along the insert so as to extend into the shutter opening,

wherein the end caps removably retain louvers within the shutter frame so that the louvers open and close within the opening; and

a spreader comprising a second laminated board portion having tongues cut at ends of the second laminated board portion,

wherein one of the spreader tongues is fixedly attached within the stile full-length groove as part of the assembled shutter frame.
