Abstract

An inline vaporizer disposed in a carrier gas line vaporizes a fluid and adds such vaporized fluid to a carrier gas that flows within the carrier gas line. The vaporizer includes a reservoir or wick that transfers a fluid to a vaporizing element that is adjacent to the reservoir or wick. The vaporizer releases a vapor into the carrier gas line so that the carrier gas flows past the vaporizer to form a vapor and carrier gas mixture.

Claims (29)

1. A system for adding a liquid to a carrier gas comprising:

a carrier gas line configured to direct a carrier gas from a source to a place of use;

a vaporizing device located within the carrier gas line, the vaporizing device comprising a heating device configured to heat a liquid to a vapor and to release the vapor at an outlet of the heating device;

a sensor configured to detect at least one of a temperature of at least one system component, a power usage of at least one system component, a gas flow through at least one system component, and a liquid flow through at least one system component; and

a controller configured to receive a signal from the sensor and further configured to control the system in response to the signal,

wherein the carrier gas within the carrier gas line flows past the outlet of the heating device, thereby forming a mixture of the vapor and the carrier gas.

2. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a pump configured to provide liquid to the vaporizing device and to be responsive to the controller.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein

the controller and the sensor are configured to detect a variation in a gas flow in the system by monitoring at least one of a temperature and a power consumption of the heating device; and

the controller is further configured to calibrate the system and to control a speed of the pump based on the signal received by the controller.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the controller is configured to detect a plurality of variations in the gas flow in the system and to calculate a rate of the plurality of variations as a function of time.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of variations comprises alternating increases and decreases in gas flow.

6. The system of claim 2 , wherein the controller is configured to calculate an actual amount of vapor created, to compare the actual amount of vapor to a target amount of vapor, and to regulate at least one of a speed of the pump and a power usage of the vaporizing device such that the actual amount of vapor is substantially equal to the target amount of vapor.

7. The system of claim 2 , further comprising a fluid container and a power source, wherein the fluid container, the power source, the pump, and the vaporizing device are all housed within a single portable body.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to predict a future variation in a gas flow in the system.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the controller is configured to determine an accuracy of the predicted future variation in the gas flow.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein

the controller and the sensor are configured to detect a change in a temperature of the heating device associated with a variation in the gas flow in the system; and

the controller is further configured to compensate for the change in the temperature of the heating device by adjusting a power supply to the heating device.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to determine a flow-rate of a gas through the system.

12. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of vaporizing devices arranged in a serial configuration, wherein the controller controls each of the plurality of vaporizing devices.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to display information about the operational status of at least one of the vaporizing device and the system.

14. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a circuit configured to identify at least one of a vaporizing device type and a system type.

15. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a countdown device for limiting a lifespan of the vaporizing device.

16. The system of claim 1 , wherein the controller comprises a safety controller configured to monitor at least one physical attribute of the system and to signal the controller when the at least one physical attribute is outside operational parameters.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the at least one physical attribute is at least one of an operating power of the system and a temperature of the system.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is configured to detect at least one ambient condition.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the at least one ambient condition is selected from the group consisting of relative humidity, absolute humidity, and temperature.

20. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a controller with an interchangeable mounting structure.
