Abstract

Methods and apparatus for authorization and routing of outdial communication services are disclosed. An example method disclosed herein comprises receiving a request to authorize an outdial communication service call initiated by a message center, and accessing an authorization table to determine whether the outdial communication service call is authorized, the authorization table to correlate input criteria associated with the request to an authorization result for the outdial communication service call, the input criteria comprising a first criterion indicating whether the outdial communication service call is for a real-time outdial service initiated in response to an indial communication service received at the message center, or for a non-real-time outdial service initiated by an application server associated with the message center.

Claims (45)

1. An apparatus comprising:

an interface to receive a request to authorize an outdial communication service call initiated by a message center;

a memory to store an authorization table to correlate input criteria associated with the request to an authorization result for the outdial communication service call, the input criteria comprising a first criterion indicating whether the outdial communication service call is for a real-time outdial service initiated in response to an indial communication service received at the message center, or for a non-real-time outdial service initiated by an application server associated with the message center; and

an analyzer to access the authorization table to determine whether the outdial communication service call is authorized based on the input criteria associated with the request.

2. An apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the table comprises:

a plurality of sets of criteria;

a plurality of authorization results correlated to respective sets of criteria to implement at least one of a regulatory authorization rule or a business authorization rule; and

a plurality of routing rules correlated to respective sets of criteria to implement at least one of regulatory routing rules or business routing rules.

3. An apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the table contains entries that are selectively modifiable.

4. An apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the table is to also correlate the input criteria to a routing result different from the authorization result, the routing result to indicate a local access transport area (LATA) to route the outdial communication service call.

5. An apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the authorization result includes at least one of:

a first value indicating that the outdial communication service call is authorized;

a second value indicating that the outdial communication service call is not authorized; or

a third value indicating that the outdial communication service call is to be authorized when at least one of a calling card number or an access number is provided.

6. An apparatus as defined in claim 1 , wherein the table includes an exception to modify the authorization result.

7. An apparatus as defined in claim 6 , wherein the exception is to modify the authorization result based on a feature type of the outdial communication service call.

8. A method to authorize an outdial communication service call, the method comprising:

receiving a request to authorize an outdial communication service call initiated by a message center; and

accessing an authorization table to determine whether the outdial communication service call is authorized, the authorization table to correlate input criteria associated with the request to an authorization result for the outdial communication service call, the input criteria comprising a first criterion indicating whether the outdial communication service call is for a real-time outdial service initiated in response to an indial communication service received at the message center, or for a non-real-time outdial service initiated by an application server associated with the message center.

9. A method as defined in claim 8 , wherein the table comprises:

a plurality of sets of criteria;

a plurality of authorization results correlated to respective sets of criteria to implement at least one of a regulatory authorization rule or a business authorization rule; and

a plurality of routing rules correlated to respective sets of criteria to implement at least one of regulatory routing rules or business routing rules.

10. A method as defined in claim 8 , wherein the table contains entries that are selectively modifiable.

11. A method as defined in claim 8 , wherein the table is to also correlate the input criteria to a routing result different from the authorization result, the routing result to indicate a local access transport area (LATA) to route the outdial communication service call.

12. A method as defined in claim 8 , wherein the authorization result includes at least one of:

a first value indicating that the outdial communication service call is authorized;

a second value indicating that the outdial communication service call is not authorized; or

a third value indicating that the outdial communication service call is to be authorized when at least one of a calling card number or an access number is provided.

13. A method as defined in claim 8 , wherein the table includes an exception to modify the authorization result.

14. A method as defined in claim 13 , wherein the exception is to modify the authorization result based on a feature type of the outdial communication service call.

15. A tangible article of manufacture storing machine readable instructions which, when executed, cause a machine to at least:

receive a request to authorize an outdial communication service call initiated by a message center; and

access an authorization table to determine whether the outdial communication service call is authorized, the authorization table to correlate input criteria associated with the request to an authorization result for the outdial communication service call, the input criteria comprising a first criterion indicating whether the outdial communication service call is for a real-time outdial service initiated in response to an indial communication service received at the message center, or for a non-real-time outdial service initiated by an application server associated with the message center.

16. A tangible article of manufacture as defined in claim 15 , wherein the table comprises:

a plurality of sets of criteria;

a plurality of authorization results correlated to respective sets of criteria to implement at least one of a regulatory authorization rule or a business authorization rule; and

a plurality of routing rules correlated to respective sets of criteria to implement at least one of regulatory routing rules or business routing rules.

17. A tangible article of manufacture as defined in claim 15 , wherein the table contains entries that are selectively modifiable.

18. A tangible article of manufacture as defined in claim 15 , wherein the table is to also correlate the input criteria to a routing result different from the authorization result, the routing result to indicate a local access transport area (LATA) to route the outdial communication service call.

19. A tangible article of manufacture as defined in claim 15 , wherein the authorization result includes at least one of:

a first value indicating that the outdial communication service call is authorized;

a second value indicating that the outdial communication service call is not authorized; or

a third value indicating that the outdial communication service call is to be authorized when at least one of a calling card number or an access number is provided.

20. A tangible article of manufacture as defined in claim 15 , wherein the table includes an exception to modify the authorization result based on a feature type of the outdial communication service call.
