Abstract

A light assembly that includes an elongated housing, a reflective parabolic cylindrical surface within the elongated housing having a focal line and an elongated cover coupled to the elongated housing. The light assembly also includes a plurality of light sources spaced apart longitudinally and emitting light toward the parabolic cylindrical surface. The parabolic cylindrical surface reflects light from the light sources out of the housing through the cover.

Claims (18)

1. A light assembly comprising:

an elongated housing;

a reflective parabolic cylindrical surface within the elongated housing having a focal line;

an elongated cover coupled to the elongated housing; and

a plurality of light-emitting diodes spaced apart longitudinally along the focal line and emit light toward the parabolic cylindrical surface away from the elongated cover;

said reflective parabolic cylindrical surface reflecting light from the light-emitting diodes out of the housing and through the cover, wherein the light reflected from the parabolic cylindrical surface is collimated in a radial direction and diffuses in a longitudinal direction.

2. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the housing comprises the parabolic cylindrical surface.

3. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the housing comprises a cylindrical outer surface and wherein an inner surface of the housing comprises the parabolic cylindrical surface.

4. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the cover comprise a cylindrical shape.

5. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the cover and housing define a cylinder.

6. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the light-emitting diodes are coupled to the housing or cylindrical surface with legs.

7. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the light-emitting diodes are coupled to a support surface.

8. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 further comprising a light shifting element shifting light reflected from the parabolic cylindrical surface.

9. A light assembly as recited in claim 8 wherein the light shifting element is coupled to the parabolic cylindrical surface.

10. A light assembly as recited in claim 8 wherein the light shifting element supports the light-emitting diodes.

11. A light assembly as recited in claim 8 wherein the light shifting element comprises circuit traces for providing power to the light-emitting diodes from a control circuit.

12. A light assembly as recited in claim 8 wherein the light shifting element is coupled to a band pass filter transmitting light from the light-emitting diodes.

13. A light assembly as recited in claim 1 wherein the plurality of light-emitting diodes emits light toward the elongated housing.
