Abstract

A system is configured to remove volatile organic compounds from a container. The system includes an enclosed contactor vessel having a first inlet to receive vapor containing volatile organic compounds from the container and a second inlet. The second inlet receives a vapor capture medium from a source. A contactor facilitates entrainment of the volatile organic compounds with the vapor capture medium while a first outlet recirculates treated vapor back to the container to effect a closed loop.

Claims (31)

1. A system for removing volatile organic compounds from vapors in a container, the system comprising:

a vessel including:

a first inlet coupleable to the container containing the vapors with volatile organic compounds (VOCs);

a second inlet coupleable to a source for a vapor capture medium;

a particulatizer positioned to particularize the vapors with the VOCs into micron-sized particles; and

an interface positioned to contact the particularized VOCs with the vapor capture medium received from the second inlet.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the interface includes packing media.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the interface includes at least one tray.

4. The system of claim 1 , further comprising the vapor capture medium, wherein the vapor capture medium comprises a methyl ester-based fluid.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the methyl ester-based fluid comprises an oil that is derived from a botanical or animal source.

6. The system of claim 4 , wherein the vapor capture medium is derived from biodiesel.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the vessel further includes:

an exit outlet to direct vapor capture medium saturated with the particularized VOCs out of the vessel.

8. The system of claim 7 , and further including:

a distillation column to receive the saturated vapor capture medium and separate the particularized VOCs from the vapor capture medium.

9. The system of claim 8 , and further including: a recirculation path between the distillation column and the vapor capture medium source for directing the separated vapor capture medium back to the source of the vapor capture medium.

10. The system of claim 1 , and further including:

a second vessel cascaded in series with the vessel.

11. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a first outlet coupled to the container and positioned to recirculate treated vapor back to the container to effect a closed loop.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the particulatizer includes a micro-porous layer.

13. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a sprayer to separate the vapor capture medium and the volatile organic compounds.

14. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a vapor capture medium purifier.

15. A system for removing volatile organic compounds from a container, the system comprising:

means for receiving vapor containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from a container;

means for receiving a vapor capture medium from a vapor capture medium source;

means for particularizing the VOCs into micron-sized particles;

means for contacting the particularized VOCs with the vapor capture medium in a contactor vessel such that the volatile organic compounds entrain with the vapor capture medium;

and

means for recirculating treated vapor back to the container to effect a closed loop.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the means for contacting comprises packing media.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the means for contacting comprises a tray.
