Abstract

The present invention provides a foam composition comprising an active agent. In particular, the foam composition produces a water resistant, preferably very water resistant, film upon application.

Claims (32)

1. A composition in a pressurized container for forming a hydroalcoholic foam, said composition consisting of:

at least one active agent comprising a sunscreen component which comprises at least one UVB sunscreen and/or at least one UVA sunscreen;

a water insoluble film-forming polymer comprising a water insoluble carboxylated acrylic copolymer having a percentage of carboxylic acid groups present that is neutralized with a basic compound;

a hydroalcoholic foaming agent comprising a C 1 -C 6 alcohol present in an amount from about 10% to about 30% by weight, water, wax and a surfactant;

an aerosol propellant; and

optionally one or more excipients selected from the group consisting of chelating agents, corrosion protecting agents, preservatives, colorants, thickeners, perfumes, fillers, diluents, carriers, plasticizers, stabilizers, gelling agents, supplemental emollients and supplemental solvents; and

wherein said percentage neutralized is between about 3% to about 35%.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said percentage neutralized is between about 7% to about 33%.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said carboxylated acrylic copolymer is neutralized using sodium benzoate.

4. A composition in a pressurized container for forming a hydroalcoholic foam, said composition consisting of:

at least one active agent comprising a sunscreen component which comprises at least one UVB sunscreen and/or at least one UVA sunscreen;

a water insoluble film-forming polymer;

a hydroalcoholic foaming agent comprising a C 1 -C 6 alcohol present in an amount from about 10% to about 30% by weight, water, wax and a surfactant;

a chelating agent; and

an aerosol propellant.

5. The composition of claim 4 , wherein said chelating agent is tetrasodium EDTA.

6. The composition of claim 4 ,

wherein the melting point of said hydroalcoholic foam is about 40° C. or higher.

7. The composition of claim 6 , wherein said composition in said pressurized container is an emulsion.

8. The composition of claim 6 , wherein said composition forms a foam when released from the container.

9. A sunscreen composition in a pressurized container consisting of:

a sunscreen component comprising at least one UVB sunscreen and/or at least one UVA sunscreen;

a water insoluble film-forming polymer comprising a water insoluble carboxylated acrylic copolymer having a percentage of carboxylic acid groups present that is neutralized with a basic compound;

a hydroalcoholic foaming agent comprising a C 1 -C 6 alcohol present in an amount from about 10% to about 30% by weight, water, wax and a surfactant;

an aerosol propellant; and

optionally one or more excipients selected from the group consisting of chelating agents, corrosion protecting agents, preservatives, colorants, thickeners, perfumes, fillers, diluents, carriers, plasticizers, stabilizers, gelling agents, supplemental emollients and supplemental solvents; and

wherein said sunscreen component comprises a mixture of octinoxate (octyl methoxycinnamate), oxybenzone (benzophenone-3), and avobenzone (4-tert-butyl-4-methoxydibenzoylmethane); and

wherein said percentage neutralized is between about 3% to about 35%.

10. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said water insoluble carboxylated acrylic copolymer is selected from the group consisting of acrylate/t-octylpropenamide, octylacrylamide/acrylate/butylaminoethyl methacrylate copolymer, acrylates/octylacrylamide copolymer, and a mixture thereof.

11. The composition of claim 10 , wherein said water insoluble carboxylated acrylic copolymer is acrylates/octylacrylamide copolymer.

12. The composition of claim 9 , wherein said water insoluble carboxylated acrylic copolymer is selected from the group consisting of acrylate/t-octylpropenamide, octylacrylamide/acrylate/butylaminoethyl methacrylate copolymer, acrylates/octylacrylamide copolymer, and a mixture thereof.

13. The composition of claim 12 , wherein said water insoluble carboxylated acrylic copolymer is acrylates/octylacrylamide copolymer.
