Small molecule trail gene induction by normal and tumor cells as an anticancer therapy
Methods and compositions relating to TIC10 are described according to aspects of the present invention. The compositions and methods have utility in treating disease, particularly cancer in a subject in need thereof, including a human subject as well as subjects of other species. The compositions have utility in treating brain cancer in a subject in need thereof.
1. A method of treating a subject having lung or breast cancer, comprising:
administering to the subject a pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of Formula (I):
or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt-thereof; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier; and
administering a pharmaceutically effective amount second therapeutic agent to the subject, wherein the second therapeutic agent comprises a mitotic inhibitor.
2. The method of treatment of claim 1 , wherein the mitotic inhibitor is a taxane.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the taxane is selected from the group consisting of paclitaxel, docetaxel and a combination thereof.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprising the compound of Formula (I) is administered orally.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered via a route of administration selected from the group consisting of rectal, nasal, pulmonary, epidural, ocular, otic, intraarterial, intracardiac, intracerebroventricular, intradermal, intravenous, intramuscular, intraperitoneal, intraosseous, intrathecal, intravesical, subcutaneous, topical, transdermal, transmucosal, sublingual, buccal, vaginal, and inhalational routes of administration.
6. The method of claim 1 , further including assessing effectiveness of the treatment.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein assessment of the effectiveness of the treatment comprises assaying TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand in a biological sample obtained from the subject.
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the biological sample is selected from the group consisting of blood, serum, plasma and cerebrospinal fluid.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cancer is lung cancer.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cancer is breast cancer.
11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the lung cancer is non-small cell lung cancer.
