Siderophore conjugate immunogenic compositions and vaccines
An immunogenic composition comprising a siderophore covalently linked to a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier molecule wherein the antigenicity of the siderophore moiety is sufficient to stimulate an immunologic response to the siderophore when the composition is circulating in the bloodstream of a human or non-human animal and vaccine.
1. A method for inducing an immune response in a human or non-human animal against a strain of Vibrio , comprising administering to the animal an immunogenic composition comprising a conjugate, wherein the conjugate comprises a siderophore covalently linked to a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier molecule, wherein:
the siderophore is vibriobactin or vulnibactin;
the pharmaceutically acceptable carrier molecule comprises a protein; and
the antigenicity of the conjugate is sufficient to stimulate an immunologic response to said conjugate when said conjugate is circulating in the bloodstream of the animal.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said immunologic response comprises the production of antibodies to at least one outer membrane siderophore receptor, outer membrane siderophore receptor-siderophore complex, or outer membrane siderophore receptor-ferrisiderophore complex of Vibrio cholerae.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the siderophore is vibriobactin.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the siderophore is vulnibactin.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said protein comprises a vibriobactin receptor protein.
6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the vibriobactin receptor protein is a vibriobactin receptor protein of Vibrio cholerae.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said protein comprises a vulnibactin receptor protein.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein said protein comprises bovine serum albumin (BSA) or ovalbumin (OVA).
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the immunogenic composition further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient.
10. The method of claim 1 wherein the Vibrio species is Vibrio cholerae excipient.
