Progress bar with feature availability indicator
In addition to conveying a completion status of a task to a user, a progress bar can display a visual indication that the task is substantially complete (e.g., essential elements of a web page are loaded) followed by another visual indication that informs the user that a particular feature or functionality has been enabled. For example, in addition to displaying a visual cue (e.g., a rocket effect) when a triviality threshold indicating that the task is complete to a threshold degree, another indicator can be displayed in response to determining that a status of a feature has been modified. Determining that the status of the feature is modified when the triviality threshold is met and thus displaying the other visual indicator immediately following the visual indication produces a dramatic visual cue in directing the user's attention to the visual enablement of the feature.
1. A method comprising:
at a computing device with a display:
displaying, on the display, a progress bar that visually displays a completion status indicator for a task being performed by an application, the completion status indicator representing a completion status for the task; and,
while performing the task:
determining a current speed at which the task is being performed;
determining a type of animation associated with the current speed;
detecting a user interaction with the progress bar; and,
in response to detecting the user interaction with the progress bar, displaying a secondary indicator that modifies the visual appearance of the progress bar, wherein the secondary indicator includes the determined animation.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting the user interaction with the progress bar includes detecting a cursor hovering over the progress bar.
3. A computing device, comprising:
a display;
a processor;
memory; and
one or more programs, wherein the one or more programs are stored in the memory and configured to be executed by the processor, the one or more programs including instructions for:
displaying, on the display, a progress bar that visually displays a completion status indicator for a task being performed by an application, the completion status indicator representing a completion status for the task; and,
while performing the task:
determining a current speed at which the task is being performed;
determining a type of animation associated with the current speed;
detecting a user interaction with the progress bar; and,
in response to detecting the user interaction with the progress bar, displaying a secondary indicator that modifies the visual appearance of the progress bar, wherein the secondary indicator includes the determined animation.
4. The computing device of claim 3 , wherein the instructions for detecting the user interaction with the progress bar include instructions for detecting a cursor hovering over the progress bar.
5. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs, the one or more programs comprising instructions, which when executed by a computing device with a display, cause the computing device to:
display, on the display, a progress bar that visually displays a completion status indicator for a task being performed by an application, the completion status indicator representing a completion status for the task; and,
while performing the task:
determine a current speed at which the task is being performed;
determine a type of animation associated with the current speed;
detect a user interaction with the progress bar; and,
in response to detecting the user interaction with the progress bar, display a secondary indicator that modifies the visual appearance of the progress bar, wherein the secondary indicator includes the determined animation.
6. The computer readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the instructions for detecting the user interaction with the progress bar include instructions for detecting a cursor hovering over the progress bar.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the secondary indicator is displayed within the progress bar.
8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the secondary indicator is updated in real-time.
9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the secondary indicator includes a visual density of the progress bar.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the secondary indicator includes a wave animation.
11. The computing device of claim 3 , wherein the secondary indicator is displayed within the progress bar.
12. The computing device of claim 3 , wherein the secondary indicator is updated in real-time.
13. The computing device of claim 3 , wherein the secondary indicator includes a visual density of the progress bar.
14. The computing device of claim 3 , wherein the secondary indicator includes a wave animation.
15. The computer readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the secondary indicator is displayed within the progress bar.
16. The computer readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the secondary indicator is updated in real-time.
17. The computer readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the secondary indicator includes a visual density of the progress bar.
18. The computer readable storage medium of claim 5 , wherein the secondary indicator includes a wave animation.
