Abstract

A communication device and method for providing an automatically initiated outgoing communication as an incoming communication are provided. Outgoing communication is automatically initiated via a communication interface of the communication device. After the outgoing communication is initiated, an indication of the outgoing communication is provided at the communication device, such that the outgoing communication is provided as an incoming communication at the communication device.

Claims (39)

1. A communication device comprising:

a processor; a memory; a display device; and a communication interface, the processor configured to:

automatically initiate an outgoing communication to another communication device at a scheduled given time via the communication interface; and, when the outgoing call is initiated:

suppress a dial-out indication of the outgoing communication;

as an automated response to the initiation of the outgoing communication, provide, at the display device, an indication of an incoming communication with the another communication device being received, the indication populated with data retrieved from the memory used to initiate the outgoing communication and the indication including, at the display device, one or more selectable options for accepting or declining the incoming communication, the outgoing communication being terminated when the selectable option for declining the incoming communication is selected;

provide the indication of an incoming communication at the display device simultaneously with suppressing the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication at the display device; and

provide the indication of an incoming communication at the display device instead of the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication at the display device.

2. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the indication of the incoming communication is further provided, while the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication is being suppressed, as one or more of: an identifier of the outgoing communication, an identifier of a conference call associated with the outgoing communication, and an identifier of meeting data associated with the outgoing communication.

3. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the indication of the incoming communication comprises an incoming communication template with fields populated with the data used to initiate the outgoing communication data retrieved from the memory, the incoming communication template provided instead of the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication.

4. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to automatically initiate the outgoing communication and simultaneously both suppress the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication and provide the indication of the incoming communication at one or more of the scheduled given time and within a given time period before the scheduled given time.

5. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to automatically initiate the outgoing communication by:

initiating the outgoing communication; and, when the another communication device responds to a request for initiating the outgoing communication;

retrieving, from the memory, the data used to initiate the outgoing communication data and providing the indication of the incoming communication populated with the data; and,

automatically providing log-in data for joining a conference call to the another communication device in the indication of the incoming communication.

6. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to, when connecting the outgoing communication is unsuccessful, automatically reattempt to automatically initiate the outgoing communication after a given time period, the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication being suppressed during each unsuccessful attempt at connecting the outgoing communication, the data used to initiate the outgoing communication being retrieved from the memory and used to populate the indication of the incoming communication only when the outgoing communication is successful.

7. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to, when one of the another communication device answers the outgoing communication, and when the outgoing communication is logged into an associated conference call: retrieve, from the memory, the data used to initiate the outgoing communication data; and provide, at the display device, the indication of the incoming communication populated with the data.

8. The communication device of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to, when the indication of the incoming communication is provided before one of the another communication device answers the outgoing communication and the outgoing communication is logged into an associated conference call: suppress the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication at least by: both suppressing the dial-out indication at the display device and muting the outgoing communication at a speaker of the communication device.

9. A method comprising:

automatically initiating, at a processor of a communication device, an outgoing communication to another communication device at a scheduled given time via a communication interface of the communication device; and, when the outgoing call is initiated:

suppressing a dial-out indication of the outgoing communication;

as an automated response to the initiation of the outgoing communication, providing at a display device of the communication device, an indication of an incoming communication with the another communication device being received, the indication populated with data retrieved from the memory used to initiate the outgoing communication, and the indication including, at the display device, one or more selectable options for accepting or declining the incoming communication, the outgoing communication being terminated when the selectable option for declining the incoming communication is selected;

providing the indication of an incoming communication at the display device simultaneously with suppressing the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication at the display device; and

providing the indication of an incoming communication at the display device instead of the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication at the display device.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the indication of the incoming communication is further provided, while the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication is being suppressed, as one or more of: an identifier of the outgoing communication, an identifier of a conference call associated with the outgoing communication, and an identifier of meeting data associated with the outgoing communication.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the indication of the incoming communication comprises an incoming communication template with fields populated with the data used to initiate the outgoing communication data retrieved from the memory, the incoming communication template provided instead of the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication.

12. The method of claim 9 , further comprising automatically initiating the outgoing communication and simultaneously both suppressing the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication and providing the indication of the incoming communication at one or more of the scheduled given time and within a given time period before the scheduled given time.

13. The method of claim 9 , further comprising automatically initiating the outgoing communication by:

initiating the outgoing communication; and, when the another communication device responds to a request for initiating the outgoing communication:

retrieving, from the memory, the data used to initiate the outgoing communication data and providing the indication of the incoming communication populated with the data; and,

automatically providing log-in data for joining a conference call to the another communication device in the indication of the incoming communication.

14. The method of claim 9 , further comprising, when connecting the outgoing communication is unsuccessful, automatically reattempting automatically initiating the outgoing communication after a given time period, the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication being suppressed during each unsuccessful attempt at connecting the outgoing communication, the data used to initiate the outgoing communication being retrieved from the memory and used to populate the indication of the incoming communication only when the outgoing communication is successful.

15. The method of claim 9 , further comprising when one of the another communication device answers the outgoing communication, and when the outgoing communication is logged into an associated conference call: retrieving, from the memory, the data used to initiate the outgoing communication data; and providing, at the display decice, the indication of the incoming communication populated with the data.

16. The method of claim 9 , further comprising, when the indication of the incoming communication is provided before one of the another communication device answers the outgoing communication and the outgoing communication is logged into an associated conference call, suppressing the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication at least by: both suppressing the dial-out indication at the display device; and muting the outgoing communication at a speaker of the communication device.

17. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing a computer program, wherein execution of the computer program is for:

automatically initiating, at a processor of a communication device, an outgoing communication to another communication device at a scheduled given time via a communication interface of the communication device; and, when the outgoing call is initiated:

suppressing a dial-out indication of the outgoing communication;

as an automated response to the initiation of the outgoing communication, providing at a display device of the communication device, an indication of an incoming communication with the another communication device being received, the indication populated with data retrieved from the memory used to initiate the outgoing communication, and the indication including, at the display device, one or more selectable options for accepting or declining the incoming communication, the outgoing communication being terminated when the selectable option for declining the incoming communication is selected;

providing the indication of an incoming communication at the display device simultaneously with suppressing the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication at the display device; and

providing the indication of an incoming communication at the display device instead of the dial-out indication of the outgoing communication at the display device.
