Abstract

The present invention provides a peptide derived from the extracellular domain of syndecan-1 that inhibits angiogenesis.

Claims (9)

1. A method of treating a subject having a cancer selected from a breast carcinoma, a myeloma, or a melanoma characterized by angiogenesis comprising contacting cancer cells which express α v β 3 or α v β 5 integrin with a peptide or polypeptide segment consisting of 32-40 amino acid residues and comprising SEQ ID NO:21, thereby treating said cancer.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said peptide or polypeptide is 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 or 39 amino acid residues in length.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said peptide consists of SEQ ID NO:28.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said peptide consists of SEQ ID NO:21.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein contacting comprises administration of said peptide or polypeptide directly to said cancer cells, local to said cancer cells, regional to said cancer cells, or systemically.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said peptide or polypeptide provided at 1-3 μM.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein said peptide or polypeptide is provided at 3-10 μM.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising contacting said cancer cells with a second anti-cancer therapy.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein said peptide or polypeptide is provided at 30 μM.
