Abstract

A method and system for auditing money items within a secure housing, the money items being collected from a multi-denomination money item storage unit and validated while being transported by a conveyor that deposits them back into the multi-denomination storage unit after they have been identified. The same process is done with the money items present in the at least one hopper.

Claims (22)

1. A method of securely auditing the money items within a secure housing of a money item dispensing system comprising at least one money item hopper and at least one multi-denomination money item storage unit, the method comprising:

collecting first money items from the at least one multi-denomination storage unit using a first conveyor;

determining and recording a denomination of each of the collected first money items on the first conveyor;

conveying the first money items back into the storage unit;

collecting second money items from each said at least one money item hopper using a second conveyor;

determining and recording the denomination of each of the collected second moneys item on the second conveyor; and

conveying the second money items back to the said at least one money item hopper.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the first money items are collected by the first conveyor from the at least one multi-denomination storage unit at random.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one multi-denomination money item storage unit is a mixed denomination cash box.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one hopper is a dumb hopper.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein conveying the second money items back to the at least one money item hopper comprises:

dispensing the second money items into a money item transfer chamber; and

conveying the second money items from the money item transfer chamber to the at least one hopper.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the denomination of the first money items is determined in a sensing region of a path of the first conveyor between a money item receiving region of the path of the first conveyor and a money item exit region of the path of the first conveyor.

The method according to claim 6 , further comprising creating a magazine of money items comprising a plurality of known-denomination money items on the first conveyor, the magazine at least between the sensing region of the path of the first conveyor and the exit region of the path of the first conveyor.

8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the magazine of money items comprises more than three money items of known denomination.

9. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the magazine of money items comprises more than five money items of known denomination.

10. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the magazine of money items comprises between three and twenty money items of known denomination.

11. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the magazine of money items comprises between five and twenty money items of known denomination.

12. The method according to claim 1 , wherein conveying the first money items back into the at least one multi-denomination storage unit comprises:

dispensing the first money items into a money item transfer chamber; and conveying the first money items from the money item transfer chamber to the at least one multi-denomination storage unit.

13. The method according to claim 12 , wherein conveying the first money items from the money item transfer chamber comprises conveying the first money items on the first conveyor to a money item exit of the first conveyor, wherein the first conveyor is a transfer conveyor.
