Abstract

A method comprising: capturing, by an electronic device, a first incident light sample and generating an image based on the first incident light sample; capturing, by the electronic device, a second incident light sample and identifying a light source type associated with the second incident light sample; and adjusting a white balance of the image according to the light source type.

Claims (46)

1. A method of an electronic device, the method comprising:

acquiring at least one incident light sample comprising a first light and a second light;

generating an image based on the at least one incident light sample;

identifying a type of a light source emitting the at least one incident light sample based on a ratio between an amount of the first light and an amount of the second light; and

adjusting a white balance of the image according to the type of the light source, wherein the first light is visible light (VL) and the second light is infrared light (IR).

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the amount of the first light and the amount of the second light are identified by using a sensor including at least one of an illumination sensor, a proximity sensor, an RGB sensor, a TOF sensor, and an IR sensor.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein

the ratio includes one of:

(i) a ratio of an intensity of IR to a sum of an intensity of VL and the intensity of IR,

(ii) a ratio of an intensity of IR to an intensity of VL,

(iii) a ratio of an intensity of VL to an intensity of IR,

(iv) a ratio of a sum of an intensity of VL and an intensity of IR to the intensity of IR,

(v) a ratio of an intensity of VL to a sum of the intensity of VL and an intensity of IR, and

(vi) a ratio of an intensity of VL and an intensity of IR to the intensity of VL.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising identifying a color temperature of the at least one incident light sample based on the ratio, wherein the type of the light source is identified based on the color temperature of the at least one incident light sample.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising storing, in a memory of the electronic device, reference information for identifying the type of the light source based on the color temperature.

The method of claim 5 , wherein the reference information includes at least one of a graph associating different color temperature values with corresponding types of light sources, a lookup table associating different color temperature values with corresponding types of light sources, an algorithm, and an equation.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one incident light sample includes a first incident light sample and a second incident light sample, wherein the first incident light sample is captured using an image sensor installed on a first surface of the electronic device, and the second incident light sample is captured by using one of (1) a first sensor for light classification that is installed on the first surface, and (2) a second sensor for light classification that is installed on a second surface of the electronic device that is opposite the first surface.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device includes two or more flash devices having different color temperatures.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising outputting a flash having color temperature corresponding to the type of the light source when the at least one incident light sample is acquired.

10. An electronic device comprising:

at least one sensor; and

at least one processor operatively coupled to the at least one sensor, and configured to:

acquire at least one incident light sample comprising a first light and a second light through the at least one sensor;

generate an image based on the at least one incident light sample;

identify a type of a light source emitting the at least one second incident light sample based on a ratio between an amount of the first light and an amount of the second light; and

adjust a white balance of the image according to the type of the light source, wherein the first light is visible light (VL) and the second light is infrared light (IR).

11. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the amount of the first light and the amount of the second light are identified by using a sensor including at least one of an illumination sensor, a proximity sensor, an RGB sensor, a TOF sensor, and an IR sensor.

12. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein

the ratio includes one of:

(i) a ratio of an intensity of IR to a sum of an intensity of VL and the intensity of IR,

(ii) a ratio of an intensity of IR to an intensity of VL,

(iii) a ratio of an intensity of VL to an intensity of IR,

(iv) a ratio of a sum of an intensity of VL and an intensity of IR to the intensity of IR,

(v) a ratio of an intensity of VL to a sum of the intensity of VL and an intensity of IR, and

(vi) a ratio of an intensity of VL and an intensity of IR to the intensity of VL.

13. The electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to identify a color temperature of the at least one incident light sample associated with the ratio, the light source type being identified based on the color temperature of the at least one incident light sample.

14. The electronic device of claim 13 , further comprising a memory storing reference information for identifying the type of the light source based on the color temperature of the at least one incident light sample.

The electronic device of claim 14 , wherein the reference information includes at least one of a graph associating different color temperature values with types of corresponding light sources, a lookup table associating different color temperature values with corresponding types of light sources, an algorithm, and an equation.

The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the at least one incident light sample includes a first incident light sample and a second incident light sample, wherein the first incident light sample is captured using an image sensor installed on a first surface of the electronic device, and the second incident light sample is captured by using one of (1) a first sensor for light classification that is installed on the first surface, and (2) a second sensor for light classification that is installed on a second surface of the electronic device that is opposite the first surface.

17. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the processor is further configured to output a flash having color temperature corresponding to the type of light source when the at least one incident light sample is acquired.

18. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing one or more processor-executable instructions, which when executed by at least one processor cause the processor to perform a method comprising:

acquiring at least one incident light sample comprising a first light and a second light;

generating an image based on the at least one incident light sample;

identifying a type of a light source emitting the at least one incident light sample based on a ratio between an amount of the first light and an amount of the second light; and

adjusting a white balance of the image according to the type of the light source, wherein the first light is visible light (VL) and the second light is infrared light (IR).
