Abstract

An arrangement for controlling energy consumption of a network node associated with a cell includes a terminal activity monitor configured to detect active terminals served by the cell. A transmission controller is connected to the terminal activity monitor and is configured to restrict transmission downlink in the cell during time periods when there are no active terminals served by the cell. During these time periods transmission is restricted to intermittent transmission of information assisting active terminals not served by the cell in finding the cell.

Claims (8)

1. A method of operating a radio terminal comprising:

receiving signals indicating a time schedule for intermittent transmission of information from a cell in a discontinuous transmission cycle and that is not currently serving any terminals, the discontinuous transmission cycle comprising a non-transmission period and a transmission period, wherein the information comprises information to assist active terminals not served by the cell in finding the cell and performing mobility measurements; and

synchronizing mobility measurements with the intermittent transmission of information.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising synchronizing a discontinuous reception mode of the radio terminal with the intermittent transmission of the information to allow the mobility measurements.

3. A radio terminal comprising:

a receiver configured to receive signals indicating a time schedule for intermittent transmission of information from a cell in a discontinuous transmission cycle and that is not currently serving any terminals, the discontinuous transmission cycle comprising a non-transmission period and a transmission period, wherein the information comprises information to assist active terminals not served by the cell in finding the cell and performing mobility measurements; and

a synchronization unit configured to synchronize mobility measurements with the intermittent transmission of information.

4. The radio terminal of claim 3 , wherein the synchronization unit is further configured to synchronize a discontinuous reception mode of the radio terminal with the intermittent transmission of the information to allow the mobility measurements.
