Abstract

We have disclosed systems and methods for portable performance monitoring of an individual during a physical activity. The systems and methods may include a portable sensor component configured to be carried by the individual during the physical activity and configured to obtain movement data for the athlete individual during the physical activity. The systems and methods may also include a portable output component configured to be carried by the individual during the physical activity and configured to provide an output to the individual during the physical activity. The systems and methods may further include a portable processing component in communication with the portable sensor component and the portable output component, where the portable processing component is configured to be carried by the individual during the physical activity. The portable processing component may be configured to identify movement of the individual during the physical activity.

Claims (42)

1. A method for suggesting a route for traversal during a fitness activity to a user, the method comprising:

collecting first electronic position data on a portable electronic device during a first fitness activity along a first route, the portable electronic device comprising a microprocessor, a display screen, a user input, a satellite positioning system receiver, and a wireless communication transceiver, the first electronic position data being determined via the satellite positioning system receiver;

wirelessly transmitting the first electronic position data to a remote computer via the wireless communication transceiver;

storing the first electronic position data in a memory of the remote computer;

collecting second electronic position data on the portable electronic device during a second fitness activity along a second route, the second electronic position data being determined via the satellite positioning system receiver;

wirelessly transmitting the second electronic position data to the remote computer via the wireless communication transceiver;

storing the second electronic position data in the memory of the remote computer;

inputting a first selection related to one of the first route and the second route on the user input;

identifying one of the first electronic position data and the second electronic position data stored in the memory of the remote computing device based on the first selection;

displaying the one of the first electronic position data and the second electronic position data on the display screen as a suggested route for traversal to the user.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying the one of the first electronic position data and the second electronic position data on a display of a second remote computing device.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating electronic route guidance data based on the first selection; and

displaying the electronic route guidance data on the display.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first selection comprises one of a desired route, a desired distance, a desired elevation profile, a desired intensity, and a desired difficulty.

5. The method of claim 4 ,

wherein electronic heart rate data is correlated with the first electronic position data and the second electronic position data,

wherein the electronic heart rate data is utilized to determine the suggested route having the desired difficulty, and

wherein the suggested route is displayed on the display screen.

6. A method for providing electronic fitness activity planning data to a user, the method comprising:

receiving an input related to a desired fitness activity along a route on a portable electronic device, the portable electronic device comprising a microprocessor, a display, a satellite positioning system receiver, and a wireless communication transceiver;

identifying electronic data stored in a database on a remote computing device based on the input, the electronic data comprising position information and map data related to a plurality of completed fitness activities along the route;

creating fitness activity route planning data based on the input and the electronic data; and

displaying the fitness activity route planning data on the display.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the electronic data comprises performance information.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the input comprises one of a desired route, a desired distance, a desired elevation profile, a desired intensity, a desired type of fitness activity, and a desired difficulty.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the fitness activity route planning data comprises route guidance information.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the route guidance information comprises one of an audio signal and a visual signal.

11. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

creating second fitness activity route planning data based on the input and the electronic data.

12. A method for providing electronic fitness activity planning data to a user, the method comprising:

receiving an input related to a desired fitness activity along a route on a portable electronic device, the portable electronic device comprising a microprocessor, a display, a satellite positioning system receiver, and a wireless communication transceiver;

identifying electronic data stored in a database on a remote computing device based on the input, the electronic data comprising position information and map data related to a plurality of completed fitness activities along the route;

creating fitness activity route planning data based on the input and the electronic data;

displaying the fitness activity route planning data on the display;

creating second fitness activity route planning data based on the input and the electronic data;

displaying the fitness activity route planning data and the second fitness activity route planning data on the display;

receiving an input on the portable electronic device related to a selected fitness activity route, the selected fitness activity route being based on the first activity route planning data or the second fitness activity route planning data;

generating selected fitness activity route data; and

displaying the selected fitness activity route data on the display.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the selected fitness activity route data comprises route guidance information.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the displaying the fitness activity route planning data and the second fitness activity route planning data comprises displaying the first activity route planning data and the second fitness activity route planning data on a map.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the input comprises a desired route distance.
