Abstract

A portable gaming and entertainment system (or “environment”) for use with a game console and related components that allows the user thereof to easily, safely and conveniently transport the system. The system comprises a case having a lid pivotally attached to a base. One or more custom inserts are provided to securely receive the game console therein. The custom inserts permit the system to be usable with a variety of supported game consoles. The lid includes a monitor and speakers, and is operative to be opened and maintained at a position to provide a desirable viewing angle for a user. The lid closes against the base to enclose the game console and other related components so that the user may easily transport and/or store the system.

Claims (33)

1. A portable gaming and entertainment system comprising:

a base comprising a first plurality of side surfaces and a bottom surface, a first side surface including a recessed portion such that a height of the recessed portion is smaller than heights of the first plurality of side surfaces other than the first side surface;

a lid comprising a second plurality of side surfaces and a top surface, a second side surface including a projecting portion such that a height of the projecting portion is greater than heights of the second plurality of side surfaces other than the second side surface;

a hinge mechanism rotatably coupling the recessed portion to the projection portion such that the first plurality of side surfaces abut the second plurality of side surfaces in a closed configuration, and such that the base and the lid are separated by an angular displacement in an open configuration;

a console recess within the base configured to secure a game console to the base;

a display device coupled to an inside of the top surface of the lid; and

a video communication channel configured to couple the display device to the game console.

2. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a first insert removably coupled within the console recess and configured to removably receive a lower portion of the game console, the console recess configured to provide access to console ports on a front face and a rear face of the game console.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein a first side surface of the base includes a first left portion, a first right portion, and a first center portion, the first center portion being lower in height than the first left portion and the first right portion.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein a second side surface of the base includes a second left portion, a second right portion, and a second center portion, the second center portion being lower in height than the second left portion and the second right portion.

5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising an audio/video panel coupled to the inside of the top surface of the lid and including one or more audio or video input ports configured for coupling with one or more audio or video output ports of the game console.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the hinge mechanism, when configured in the open configuration, is configured to support the lid at an angle greater than 90 degrees relative to a horizontal plane for viewing of the display device.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display device is at least partially spaced apart from the back side of the base along a horizontal plane when the lid is in the opened position and tilted rearward at an angle equal to greater than 90 degrees relative to the horizontal plane.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display device is separated from the inside of the top surface of the lid by a threshold displacement.

9. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a handle coupled to the system and configured to allow a user to carry the system when the lid is in the closed position.

10. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a speaker configured to couple with the game console.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the speaker is coupled to the inside of the top surface of the lid.

12. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a lock for selectively locking the lid in the closed configuration.

13. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a first adjustable strap and a second adjustable strap coupled to the base, the first adjustable strap and the second adjustable strap each including hook and loop fasteners to selectively secure the game console to the base.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the display device includes an integrated audio output device.

15. A portable electronics case comprising:

a base comprising a first plurality of side surfaces and a bottom surface, a first side surface including a recessed portion such that a height of the recessed portion is smaller than heights of the first plurality of side surfaces other than the first side surface;

a lid comprising a second plurality of side surfaces and a top surface, a second side surface including a projecting portion such that a height of the projecting portion is greater than heights of the second plurality of side surfaces other than the second side surface;

a hinge mechanism rotatably coupling the recessed portion to the projection portion such that the first plurality of side surfaces abut the second plurality of side surfaces in a closed configuration, and such that the base and the lid are separated by an angular displacement in an open configuration;

an electronic device recess within the base configured to secure an electronic device; and

a display device coupled to an inside of the top surface of the lid and configured to display video sourced from the electronic device.

16. The case of claim 15 , further comprising:

a first insert removably coupled within the electronic device recess and configured to removably receive a lower portion of the electronic device, the electronic device recess configured to provide access to electronic device ports on a front face and a rear face of the electronic device.

17. The case of claim 15 , wherein a first side surface of the base includes a first left portion, a first right portion, and a first center portion, the first center portion being lower in height than the first left portion and the first right portion.

18. The case of claim 17 , wherein a second side surface of the base includes a second left portion, a second right portion, and a second center portion, the second center portion being lower in height than the second left portion and the second right portion.

19. The case of claim 15 , further comprising a handle coupled to the case and configured to allow a user to carry the system when the lid is in the closed position.

20. The case of claim 15 , further comprising a lock for selectively locking the lid in the closed configuration.
