Gluconate-based compositions as a neonate anticonvulsant
The present invention is drawn to the treatment of neonatal patients exhibiting convulsion comprising administering a composition comprising a gluconate complex, wherein said gluconate complex lacks a divalent cation such as sodium gluconate.
1. A method, comprising:
a) providing:
i) a neonatal patient exhibiting convulsions;
ii) a composition comprising a gluconate complex, wherein said gluconate complex lacks a divalent cation; and
b) administering said composition to said patient under conditions such that said convulsions are reduced.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said gluconate complex is sodium gluconate.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said divalent cation is a calcium-based divalent cation therapy.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said divalent cation is a magnesium-based divalent cation.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said divalent cation is a zinc-based divalent cation.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said gluconate complex comprises a gluconic acid derivative.
7. A method, comprising:
a) providing:
i) a neonatal patient exhibiting convulsions;
ii) a composition consisting of a sodium gluconate complex, wherein said complex lacks a divalent cation; and
b) administering said composition to said patient under conditions such that said convulsions are reduced.
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein said divalent cation gluconate complex comprises a gluconic acid derivative.
9. A method, comprising:
a) providing;
i) a neonatal patient exhibiting convulsions, wherein said patient comprises at least one chloride ion channel;
ii) a composition comprising a chloride ion channel blocker, wherein said chloride ion channel blocker comprises a gluconate complex that lacks a divalent cation; and
b) administering said composition to said patient under conditions such that said convulsions are reduced.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein said chloride ion channel blocker further comprises a compound that is selected from the group consisting of niflumic acid (NFA), flufenamic acid, 4,4′-Diisothiocyanato-2,2′-stilbenedisulfonic acid disodium salt (DIDS), and 5-Nitro-2-(3-phenylpropylamino) benzoic acid (NPPB).
11. The method of claim 9 , wherein said gluconate complex is sodium gluconate.
12. The method of claim 9 , wherein said divalent cation is selected from the group consisting of a calcium-based divalent cation, a magnesium-based divalent cation, and a zinc-based divalent cation.
13. The method of claim 9 , wherein said gluconate complex comprises a gluconic acid derivative.
14. The method of claim 1 , wherein said composition further comprises phenobarbital.
15. The method of claim 9 , wherein said composition further comprises phenobarbital.
