Dry ink for digital printing
Pigment based particles in powder form intended to be used as colorants in a digital print formed by applying dry colorants on a surface, bonding a part of the colorants with a binder and removing the non-bonded colorants from the surface. A panel with a surface including a digitally formed print of macro colorants including a particle body and color pigments attached to the surface of the particle body is also described. The colorants are arranged in patterns with pigments on an upper and lower surface of the particle body.
1. Dry ink comprising macro colourant particles for bonding to a liquid print applied on a surface by a digital drop application head, wherein the macro colourant particles each comprise:
a particle body,
a dry resin bonded to the particle body, and
colour pigments bonded to the particle body,
wherein the dry resin is adapted to melt when the macro colourant is in contact with the liquid print and to bond the macro colourant to the surface.
2. A method of bonding a dry ink to a surface, the dry ink is as claimed in claim 1 , the method comprising bonding macro colour particles to a liquid print applied on a surface by a digital drop application head, wherein the dry resin melts when the macro colourant contacts the liquid print to bond the macro colourant to the surface.
3. Dry ink comprising macro colorant particles for bonding to a surface, each macro colorant particle comprising a particle body,
wherein the particle body is a mineral particle or a glass particle, and
wherein the macro colorant particles are configured to be bonded to the surface by:
a liquid print applied on the surface and a binder, or
a thermosensitive binder.
4. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the binder is provided in the liquid print.
5. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the macro colorant particles comprise said binder or thermosensitive binder.
6. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the binder or thermosensitive binder is provided in the surface.
7. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the binder comprises a thermosetting resin or a thermoplastic resin, and wherein the thermosensitive binder comprises a thermosetting resin, a thermoplastic resin, or a wax.
8. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the particle body is coated with thermoplastic resin or thermosetting resin.
9. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the particle body is coated with a melamine resin.
10. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the particle body comprises a spray-dried thermosetting resin or a spray-dried thermoplastic resin.
11. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the macro colorant particles are provided as sand or stone powder.
12. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the particle body is a mineral particle, wherein the mineral particle is derived from oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potassium or glass powder.
13. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the particle body is a mineral particle, wherein the mineral particle comprises aluminum oxide.
14. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the particle body is a glass particle, wherein the glass particle comprises color pigments.
15. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein color pigments are bonded to the particle body by a thermoplastic resin or a thermosetting resin.
16. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein color pigments are applied on upper parts and lower parts of the particle body.
17. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the mineral particle or the glass particle is colored.
18. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the macro colorant particles are configured to be bonded to the surface by:
a liquid print applied on the surface by digital drop application head and a binder, or
a thermosensitive binder being activated by a heating print head.
19. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the macro colorant particles comprise color pigments and wherein a binder content is 10-30% and/or a pigment content is 5-25% of a total weight of the macro colorant particles.
20. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the surface is a surface of a paper, a foil, a textile, a metal, a wall paper, or a ceramic tile.
21. Dry ink as claimed in claim 3 , wherein liquid print comprises at least one of water, glycol, and glycerine.
