Abstract

An apparatus for analyzing the condition of a machine having a part rotatable with a speed of rotation, includes an input for receiving an analog measurement signal indicative of a vibration signal signature having a vibration frequency and a repetition frequency; an A/D converter for generating a digital measurement signal dependent on the analog measurement signal, the digital measurement signal having a first sample rate, which is at least twice the vibration frequency; an enveloper for generating an enveloped signal indicative of the repetition frequency; a decimator for generating a decimated first digital signal dependent on the enveloped signal such that the decimated first digital signal has a reduced sample rate; an enhancer having an input for receiving the decimated signal, wherein the enhancer operates in the time domain to perform discrete autocorrelation for the decimated first digital signal so as to generate an enhancer output signal sequence; and an analyzer for performing a condition monitoring function so as to analyze the condition of the machine dependent on the output signal sequence.

Claims (36)

1. An apparatus for analyzing a condition of a machine having a part rotatable with a speed of rotation, comprising:

a shock pulse sensor that converts mechanical vibrations emanating from rotation of said part into an analog measurement signal having a vibration signal signature comprising a vibration frequency and a repetition frequency;

an A/D converter that generates a digital measurement signal dependent on the analog measurement signal, said digital measurement signal having a first sample rate; and

a processor configured to function as:

an enveloper that generates an enveloped signal comprising said repetition frequency in dependence on said digital measurement signal,

a decimator that generates a decimated first digital signal dependent on said enveloped signal such that said decimated first digital signal has a reduced sample rate, and

an enhancer that receives said decimated first digital signal, wherein the enhancer operates in the time domain to perform discrete autocorrelation at a lag for the decimated first digital signal so as to generate an enhancer output signal sequence, said enhancer processing a first number of input sample values of said decimated first digital signal so as to generate said enhancer output signal sequence having a second number of output sample values, said second number being a positive integer,

wherein an output sample value, selected from said second number of output sample values, is generated in dependence of a third number of input signal products, said third number being a positive integer, said input signal product being a product of two selected said input sample values, said enhancer comprising:

an Output Signal Length Calculator that sets the second number equal to an integer value dependent on a first information indicative of a selected frequency resolution to be used in a Fast Fourier Transform,

a data value generator that generates a data value indicative of said third number in dependence on a second information indicative of a desired improvement of a Signal-to-Noise-Ratio for the repetitive signal signature and data indicative of said second number,

a stochastic signal frequency attenuator setting operator that receives data indicative of said second number, said stochastic signal frequency attenuator setting operator setting said lag equal to the second number or to a value higher than the second number, and

an Input Signal Length Calculator that sets the first number to a value equal to an integer I L or to a value higher than the integer I L ,

where

I L =O LENGTH *L+S START +O LENGTH ,

and where

O LENGTH is an integer equal to said second number,

L is said second information, and

S START is a value indicative of said lag,

said processor further being configured to function as:

an analyzer that performs said Fast Fourier Transform dependent on the enhancer output signal sequence so as to generate frequency domain data indicative of said repetition frequency, and

wherein said apparatus further comprises:

a user interface cooperating with said processor so that when a user selects, via said user interface, to generate said frequency domain data such that:

the user interface prompts a user to enter said first information, and

the user interface prompts a user to enter said second information.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a detector that generates a value indicative of said speed of rotation of said rotatable part,

wherein said enhancer receives said speed of rotation value.

3. The apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein said user interface allows a user to set a speed of rotation value to a selectable value, and

wherein said enhancer receives said speed of rotation value.

4. The apparatus according to claim 1 ,

wherein said user interface further cooperates with said processor so that when a user selects, via said user interface, to generate said frequency domain data:

the user interface prompts a user to enter third information indicative of a highest repetition frequency of interest to be detectable in said frequency domain data, and

wherein said Output Signal Length Calculator sets the second number dependent also on said third information.

5. The apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein the user interface prompts a user to enter said third information in the form of a frequency value.

6. The apparatus according to claim 4 , wherein the user interface prompts a user to enter said third information in the form of an order number.
