Abstract

Methods and apparatus are described to automatically re-enable monitoring of a bypassed security sensor by a security system control device.

Claims (31)

1. A method performed by a security system control device for automatically re-enabling monitoring of a security sensor, independently located from the security system control device, that has been bypassed, comprising:

receiving, by a processor of the security system control device, a command to place the security sensor into a bypassed state;

ignoring, by the processor of the security system control device, future alarm signals received from the security sensor via a receiver of the security system control device while the security system control device is operating in a first operating mode and while the security sensor is in the bypassed state;

receiving, by the processor of the security system control device while the security system control device is operating in the first operating mode and while the security sensor is in the bypassed state, an indication from a user to change an operating mode of the security system control device from the first operating mode to a second operating mode; and

processing, by the processor of the security system control device, future alarm signals received from the security sensor via the receiver of the security system control device while the security system control device is operating in the second operating mode and while the security sensor is in the bypassed state.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein processing future alarm signals comprises causing a siren to sound in response to receiving an alarm signal from the security sensor.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein processing future alarm signals comprises sending a system alarm signal to a remote monitoring station in response to receiving an alarm signal from the security sensor.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

in response to receiving the command to place the security sensor into a bypassed state, transmitting, by the processor of the security system control device via a communication interface, a message to a remote location indicating that the security sensor has been bypassed.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first mode of operation is armed-home and the second mode of operation is armed-away.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

in response to receiving the indication to change the operating mode of the security system from the first operating mode to the second operating mode, generating, by the processor of the security system control device, an indication that the security sensor has changed status from being bypassed to being monitored.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the command to place the security sensor into a bypassed state is generated by operation of a user interface located on the security system control device.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the command to place the security sensor into a bypassed state is received via the receiver of the security sensor control device from the security sensor in response to the user causing the security sensor to transmit the command.

9. A security system control device for automatically re-enabling monitoring of a security sensor, independently located from the security system control device, that has been bypassed, comprising:

a receiver for receiving an alarm signal transmitted by the security sensor;

a memory for storing processor-executable instructions and status information relating to the security sensor;

a processor, coupled to the receiver and the memory, for executing the processor-executable instructions that causes the security system control device to:

receive a command, by the processor, to place the security sensor into a bypassed state;

ignore, by the processor, future alarm signals received from the security sensor via the receiver while the security system control device is operating in a first operating mode while the security sensor is in the bypassed state;

receive, by the processor while the security system control device is operating in the first operating mode and while the security sensor is in the bypassed state, an indication from a user to change an operating mode of the security system from the first operating mode to a second operating mode; and

process, by the processor, future alarm signals received from the security sensor while the security system control device is operating in the second mode and while the security sensor is in the bypassed state.

10. The security system control device of claim 9 , wherein the processor-executable instructions that cause the security system control device to process future alarm signals comprises instructions that cause the security system control device to sound an alarm in response to receiving an alarm signal from the security sensor.

11. The security system control device of claim 9 , wherein the processor-executable instructions that cause the security system control device to process future alarm signals comprises instructions that cause the security system control device to send a system alarm signal to a remote monitoring station in response to receiving an alarm signal from the security sensor.

12. The security system control device of claim 9 , further comprising a communication interface, and the processor-executable instructions further comprise instructions that cause the security system control device to:

in response to receiving the command to place the security sensor into a bypassed state, transmit, by the processor via the communication interface, a message to a remote location indicating that the security sensor has been bypassed.

13. The security system control device of claim 9 , wherein the first mode of operation is armed-home and the second mode of operation is armed-away.

14. The security system control device of claim 9 , wherein the processor-executable instructions further comprise instructions that cause the security system control device to:

in response to receiving the indication to change the operating mode of the security system from the first operating mode to the second operating mode, generate, by the processor, an indication that the security sensor has changed status from being bypassed to being monitored.

15. The security system control device of claim 9 , further comprising a user interface, wherein the command to place the security sensor into a bypassed state is received via the user interface.

16. The security system control device of claim 9 , wherein the command to place the security sensor into a bypassed state is received from the security sensor in response to the user causing the security sensor to transmit the command.
