Abstract

Stand-alone interbody fusion devices for engagement between adjacent vertebrae. The stand-alone interbody fusion devices may include frames and one or more endplates coupled to the frame. The frame may be configured and designed to provide the apertures which are designed to retain bone fasteners, such as screws or anchors, and secure the implant to the adjacent vertebrae.

Claims (28)

1. An intervertebral implant for implantation in an intervertebral space between adjacent vertebrae, the implant comprising:

a frame comprising a body, a first extension extending from the body, and a second extension extending from the body, wherein the frame further comprises a first hole for receiving a first screw and a second hole for receiving a second screw;

a first screw extending through the first hole;

a second screw extending through the second hole; and

a spacer connected to the frame, wherein the spacer comprises a first spacer portion, a second spacer portion,

wherein a first pin couples the first spacer portion and the second spacer portion together, a second pin couples the first spacer portion to the first extension and a third pin couples the second spacer portion to the second extension,

wherein a surface of the first spacer portion contacts a surface of the second spacer portion

wherein an upper surface of the spacer contacts an endplate of a first vertebral body and a lower surface of the spacer contacts an endplate of a second vertebral body.

2. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the frame further comprises an upper surface and a lower surface, wherein a first torsional stabilizer extends from the upper surface and a second torsional stabilizer extends from the lower surface.

3. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the frame further comprises a first eyebrow that forms the first hole and a second eyebrow that forms the second hole.

4. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the first screw is angled in an upward direction and the second screw is angled in a downward direction.

5. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the first spacer portion further comprises a cut-out portion for receiving the first pin therethrough.

6. The implant of claim 5 , wherein the first pin extends through the connector and the first spacer portion.

7. The implant of claim 1 , wherein the frame further comprises a pair of torsional stabilizers extending from an upper surface thereof.

8. An intervertebral implant for implantation in an intervertebral space between adjacent vertebrae, the implant comprising:

a frame comprising a body, a first extension extending from the body, and a second extension extending from the body, wherein the frame further comprises a first hole for receiving a first screw and a second hole for receiving a second screw;

a first screw extending through the first hole;

a second screw extending through the second hole; and

a spacer connected to the frame, wherein the spacer comprises a first spacer portion, a second spacer portion,

wherein a first pin couples the first spacer portion and the second spacer portion together, a second pin couples the first spacer portion to the first extension and a third pin couples the second spacer portion to the second extension,

wherein a surface of the first spacer portion contacts a surface of the second spacer portion

wherein an upper surface of the spacer contacts an endplate of a first vertebral body and a lower surface of the spacer contacts an endplate of a second vertebral body.

9. The implant of claim 8 , wherein the frame further comprises an upper surface and a lower surface, wherein a first torsional stabilizer extends from the upper surface and a second torsional stabilizer extends from the lower surface, wherein each of the first torsional stabilizer and second torsional stabilizer comprises a triangular cross-section.

10. The implant of claim 8 , wherein the frame further comprises a first eyebrow that forms the first hole and a second eyebrow that forms the second hole.

11. The implant of claim 8 , wherein the first screw is angled in an upward direction and the second screw is angled in a downward direction.

12. The implant of claim 8 , wherein the first spacer portion further comprises a cut-out portion, wherein the first extension of the frame is received in the cut-out portion of the spacer.

13. The implant of claim 8 , wherein the first spacer portion further comprises a first cut-out portion and the second spacer portion further comprises a second cut-out portion.

14. The implant of claim 13 , wherein the first cut-out portion is formed on an upper portion of the first spacer portion and the second cut-out portion is formed on a lower portion of the second spacer portion.
