Abstract

A gas turbine engine article includes a baffle that is configured to be mounted in a cavity of a gas turbine engine component. The baffle has a baffle wall that circumscribes an open interior region. The baffle wall includes a forward wall, side walls, and an aft wall. The side walls include impingement orifices, and the aft wall defines two datum features. At least one of the datum features is a dimple that is a portion of a sphere.

Claims (25)

1. A gas turbine engine article, comprising:

a baffle configured to be mounted in a cavity of a gas turbine engine component, the baffle having a baffle wall that circumscribes an open interior region, the baffle wall including a forward wall, side walls, and an aft wall, the side walls including impingement orifices, and the aft wall defining two datum features, wherein at least one of the datum features is a dimple that is a portion of a sphere, the dimple impinging into the open interior region.

2. The article as recited in claim 1 , wherein the portion of the sphere is less than half of the sphere.

3. The article as recited in claim 1 , wherein the baffle is elongated along a longitudinal direction, and the two datum features are spaced-apart in the longitudinal direction.

4. The article as recited in claim 1 , wherein the baffle is a nickel-based or cobalt-based alloy.

5. The article as recited in claim 1 , wherein the baffle wall, including the forward wall, the side walls, and the aft wall, is formed of a single, monolithic piece of superalloy.

6. The article as recited in claim 5 , wherein the baffle includes an endwall that is welded to the baffle wall and that encloses the interior region.

7. The article as recited in claim 6 , wherein the baffle includes a flange that is welded to the baffle wall.

8. The article as recited in claim 1 , wherein the baffle is a nickel-based or cobalt-based alloy, and the baffle wall, including the forward wall, the side walls, and the aft wall, is formed of a single, monolithic piece of superalloy.

9. A gas turbine engine article, comprising:

an airfoil defining an internal cavity; and

a baffle disposed in the cavity, the baffle having a baffle wall that circumscribes an open interior region, the baffle wall including a forward wall, side walls, and an aft wall, the side walls including impingement orifices, and the aft wall defining two datum features, wherein at least one of the datum features is a dimple that is a portion of a sphere, the dimple impinging into the open interior region.

10. The article as recited in claim 9 , wherein the portion of the sphere is less than half of the sphere.

11. The article as recited in claim 9 , wherein the baffle is elongated along a longitudinal direction, and the two datum features are spaced-apart in the longitudinal direction.

12. The article as recited in claim 9 , wherein the baffle is a nickel-based or cobalt-based alloy, and the baffle wall, including the forward wall, the side walls, and the aft wall, is formed of a single, monolithic piece of superalloy.

13. The article as recited in claim 9 , wherein the baffle is elongated along a longitudinal direction, and the two datum features are spaced-apart in the longitudinal direction.

14. The article as recited in claim 13 , wherein the portion of the sphere is less than half of the sphere.

15. A gas turbine engine comprising:

a compressor section;

a combustor in fluid communication with the compressor section; and

a turbine section in fluid communication with the combustor, the turbine section having airfoils disposed about a central axis of the gas turbine engine, each of the airfoils includes:

an internal cavity, and

a baffle disposed in the cavity, the baffle having a baffle wall that circumscribes an open interior region, the baffle wall including a forward wall, side walls, and an aft wall, the side walls including impingement orifices, and the aft wall defining two datum features, wherein at least one of the datum features is a dimple that is a portion of a sphere, the dimple impinging into the open interior region.

16. The gas turbine engine as recited in claim 15 , wherein the portion of the sphere is less than half of the sphere.

17. The gas turbine engine as recited in claim 15 , wherein the baffle is a nickel-based or cobalt-based alloy, and the baffle wall, including the forward wall, the side walls, and the aft wall, is formed of a single, monolithic piece of superalloy.
