Frequently Asked Questions

Depends on your tier: Free checks patents and PCTs twice daily (~7:30am & 3:30pm ET); Basic checks them every hour; Pro checks them every 5 minutes. Trademarks are batched once daily across all tiers since trademark records change slowly. See the "How Often We Check" table above for the full matrix.

When an applicant files a continuation, divisional, or continuation-in-part (CIP) off an application you're monitoring, we detect it and notify you immediately — including the new application number, filing date, and relationship type. This is intelligence that the USPTO's own Patent Center requires a separate manual search to find.

Yes. You can monitor trademarks by either serial number or registration number. Our system looks up the current status from the USPTO's trademark database and alerts you to any changes.

No. The free plan allows up to 5 monitored applications with no credit card required. Just create an account and start adding applications or trademarks immediately.

Every alert email and monitoring detail page includes an "Order Certified Copies" button. Clicking it takes you directly to a pre-filled order form with the application or trademark number, title, and applicant already entered. You select what you need and submit — no re-entering information.

Yes. You can monitor any publicly available USPTO patent application, granted patent, PCT international application, or trademark — whether it's your own or a competitor's. Many firms use this to track key applications in their technology space.

US PCTs (PCT/US/...) are monitored through USPTO's database — same data and frequency as US patent applications, including pre-publication status, file-history documents, and assignments. International PCTs filed at foreign offices (PCT/AT/..., PCT/EP/..., etc.) and WO publication numbers (WO2024/...) are both monitored through EPO's published-data API and only become trackable once they publish (~18 months after filing). For these, we detect new family members appearing (national-phase entries are the most useful signal), kind-code changes (A2→A3 indicates the International Search Report has issued), first-publication events for unpublished PCTs that newly appear, and similar bibliographic updates.
