Abstract

Methods and apparatus are provided for securely generating IP cores. A designer selects and configures parameterizable IP cores provided for implementation on a programmable chip. The IP cores are processed using mechanisms such as scripts to parameterize and customize the IP cores while removing option and parameter information.

Claims (29)

1. A method for generating a core for implementation on a device, the method comprising:

receiving parameter information associated with a parameterizable core, the parameterizable core comprising option information corresponding to the received parameter information;

decrypting a script to obtain a decrypted script associated with the parameterizable core; and

processing the parameterizable core using the decrypted script to generate a static core, the decrypted script removing the option information included in the parameterizable core, wherein the static core is specially configured for implementation on the device based on the received parameter information.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

capturing information associated with the static core.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the static core is not parameterizable.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the decrypted script is provided in a high level programming language.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the parameterizable core is provided in a hardware descriptor language.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein information associated with the static core is captured in memory mapped IO.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein information associated with the parameterizable core and the decrypted script are not captured.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein information associated with the parameterizable core and the decrypted script are not written to any persistent memory.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the parameterizable core is a cleartext parameterizable core.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the static core is specially configured for implementation on a family of devices including the device.

11. A system for generating a core for implementation on a programmable device, the system comprising:

an interface operable to receive parameter information associated with a parameterizable core, the parameterizable core comprising option information corresponding to the received parameter information;

a processor operable to decrypt a script to obtain a decrypted script associated with the parameterizable core and process the parameterizable core using the decrypted script to generate a static core, wherein the processor running the decrypted script removes the option information included in the parameterizable core, wherein the static core is specially configured for implementation on the programmable device based on the received parameter information.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the processor is further operable to capture information associated with the static core.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the static core is not parameterizable.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the decrypted script is provided in a high level programming language.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the parameterizable core is provided in a hardware descriptor language.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein information associated with the static core is captured in memory mapped 10 .

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein information associated with the parameterizable core and the decrypted script are not captured.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein information associated with the parameterizable core and the decrypted script are not written to any persistent memory.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the parameterizable core is a cleartext parameterizable core.

20. An apparatus comprising:

means for receiving parameter information associated with a parameterizable core, the parameterizable core comprising option information corresponding to the received parameter information;

means for decrypting a script to obtain a decrypted script associated with the parameterizable core;

means for processing the parameterizable core using the decrypted script to generate a static core, the decrypted script removing option information included in the parameterizable core, wherein the static core is specially configured for implementation on any device included in a family of devices based on received parameter information.
