Abstract

Provided are coaxial waveguide microstructures. The microstructures include a substrate and a coaxial waveguide disposed above the substrate. The coaxial waveguide includes: a center conductor; an outer conductor including one or more walls, spaced apart from and disposed around the center conductor; one or more dielectric support members for supporting the center conductor in contact with the center conductor and enclosed within the outer conductor; and a core volume between the center conductor and the outer conductor, wherein the core volume is under vacuum or in a gas state. Also provided are methods of forming coaxial waveguide microstructures by a sequential build process and hermetic packages which include a coaxial waveguide microstructure.

Claims (16)

1. A coaxial waveguide microstructure, comprising a plurality of coaxial waveguides formed by a sequential build process, the coaxial waveguides each comprising a respective center conductor and a corresponding outer conductor comprising one or more walls spaced apart from and disposed around the center conductor, wherein at least one of the respective outer conductor walls has an opening extending from an exterior surface of the outer conductor to an interior surface of the respective outer conductor, and wherein the plurality of coaxial waveguides are disposed in a stacked arrangement.

2. The coaxial waveguide microstructure of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of coaxial waveguides each comprise a core volume between the respective center conductor and the corresponding outer conductor which is under vacuum or in a gas state.

3. The coaxial waveguide microstructure of claim 1 , wherein a first plurality of the coaxial waveguides are disposed over a second plurality of the coaxial waveguides.

4. The coaxial waveguide microstructure of claim 3 , wherein adjacent coaxial waveguides of said plurality of coaxial waveguides share a common outer conductor wall.

5. The coaxial waveguide microstructure of claim 3 , wherein the first plurality of coaxial waveguides are in vertical alignment with the second plurality of coaxial waveguides.

6. The coaxial waveguide microstructure of claim 1 , wherein the center conductors of the plurality of coaxial waveguides are connected together.

7. The coaxial waveguide microstructure of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of coaxial waveguides each have a generally rectangular coaxial stricture.

8. The coaxial waveguide microstructure of claim 1 , wherein the opening is present among a plurality of openings in the at least one of the outer conductor walls, the plurality of openings extending from the exterior surface of the outer conductor to the interior surface of the outer conductor.

9. A method of forming a coaxial waveguide microstructure, comprising forming a plurality of coaxial waveguides by a sequential build process, the sequential build process comprising depositing a plurality of layers over a substrate, the plurality of coaxial waveguides each comprising a respective center conductor and a corresponding outer conductor comprising one or more walls spaced apart from and disposed around the respective center conductor, wherein the plurality of coaxial waveguides are disposed in a stacked arrangement.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of coaxial waveguides each comprise a core volume between the respective center conductor and the corresponding outer conductor which is under vacuum or in a gas state.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein a first plurality of the coaxial waveguides are disposed over a second plurality of the coaxial waveguides.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the first plurality of coaxial waveguides are in vertical alignment with the second plurality of coaxial waveguides.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein adjacent coaxial waveguides of said plurality of coaxial waveguides share a common outer conductor wall.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the respective center conductors of the plurality of coaxial waveguides are connected together.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of coaxial waveguides each have a generally rectangular coaxial structure.

16. The method of claim 9 , further comprising forming in at least one of the outer conductor walls an opening extending from an exterior surface of the respective outer conductor to an interior surface of the outer conductor.
