Abstract

Synthetic methods and intermediates useful in the preparation of lactone containing compounds such as discodermolide and compounds which mimic the chemical or biological activity of discodermolide are provided.

Claims (9)

1. A compound of formula:

wherein:

R 6 is H or C 1 -C 10 alkyl;

R 7 and R 8 are independently C 1 -C 10 alkyl;

R 9 is an acid labile protecting group;

R 18 is C 6 -C 14 aryl; and

X is halogen.

2. The compound of claim 1 of formula:

wherein TBS is tert-butyldimethylsilyl and Ph is phenyl.
